Re: A History of Violence

I expected MUCH better than this movie delivered...this was my first Cronenberg and he seemed very watered-down compared to what I've merely heard about his others. The whole setting up of the "small town way of life" was SO FUCKING CLICHED!! I was laughing when I was not supposed to.

Re: A History of Violence

I think a lot of people missed the point of the film, as I think the film is being marketed wrong. They're trying to sell it as a western along the lines of Unforgiven (similar theme), but I think there's a much more mediative vibe going on throughout the film, and there's a lot more going on underneath. Because people are expecting a by the numbers High Noon takeoff/rehash, people are coming out of this feeling like they're not getting what they paid for.

I still think this was one of the better films of the year, more for the tight filmmaking technique as well as the performances of Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bellow, Ed Harris and even William Hurt.

Re: A History of Violence

I saw this today. Think I was expecting more though. Enjoyed the film and really loved the unsettling feeling I had throughout the film as it was kind of odd and I was unsure of the characters and how they behaved all the way thru. Definitely worth a see but worth no awards.
