I love that movie! I just wonder - what is so different in the Directors' cut that warrents another theater release? I am used to seeing the directors' cut just put out on DVD only. Looking forward to seeing it, though. :D

Re:: Donnie Darko directors cut

Love the movie. But will the director's cut offer anything significant to this flick?

The first theatrical release of this movie in the USA was a dismal failure. It became a cult fave after it was released in the UK and on cable. I guess they're just trying to make some money. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Re:: Donnie Darko directors cut

also, another theatrical release might allow more people to see this movie, who otherwise might not buy it on dvd. as mentioned, it disappeared pretty quick here in the states. terrific movie. funny & v-e-r-y strange...

I've got the original and its pure class even though I didn't quite understand it, thay should start a topic on that instead, what the film actually means?

But yeah I heard they're re-releasing because of poor box office takings mainly due to bad timing, i.e 9/11.

I also hear they might be adding a few new tracks to soundtrack that they originally didnt get permission to use. Not sure about any additional scenes, hope it makes it to cinema in UK!

Seems good.Thanks for the information!

#234070Post 25 of 50

read a review of this in Empire and they actually gave the directors cut one less star, said it added nothing and you might as well stick to the original.................

Re:: Donnie Darko directors cut

Where is this playing? I live in Phoenix and it hasn't opened here yet. I know it's in LA and Chicago (and I heard Boston) and was wondering what other cities it's in. I hope it's gets a wider release in the next couple of weeks cause I really want to see it in the theatre. The Directors cut has like 20 min. extra and they added more songs cause they had money to get them licensed this time.

Anyway, is it playing where you live?

????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????

Re: Donnie Darko directors cut

I just saw this film recently. I can't say I didn't like it; it was good...but I wouldn't say it was an amazing piece of cinema- I guess I still can't make up my mind about it. Can anybody tell me why they think this movie is good?

#389521Post 30 of 50

Re: Donnie Darko directors cut

Still have to buy this one.... got the original DVD already though. One of my favorites ever....

Re: Donnie Darko directors cut

havent watched it yet, but i've added it to my collection recently. my friend said that the added footage makes all the difference (although the original is great)

Re: Donnie Darko directors cut

This suffered from the same problem of 2010 - the sequel to 2001 A Space Odyssey; it explains way too much and kills a lot of the tension that the original release offered in spades. It makes for a good companion peice, but I'd recommend watching the theatrical cut first before considering seeing the Director's Cut.

Donnie Darko

Hi everyone, this was once posted here before, but I can?t find it. What was the supposed second part of the movie "donnie darko"? I think last year somebody said something in MS forum, that it was gonna be ready soon, and the name of it. Thanks a lot!

Re: Donnie Darko directors cut

ok, so I just finished watching this for the first time, and I was pretty let down guys. I don't know why everyone's calling this such a good movie... seriously fellas. it's about a (21-year-old :lol:) high schooler who sees an imaginary costumed rabbit wearing a vader-esque voice-changing mask that's telling him to commit federal crimes. i couldn't get into it at all until the last 5 minutes of the story. 2 pickles imo because it was too hard to take this movie seriously.
