Re: The Revenant
The amount of skill and patience that the director employed in order to make this - extremely long takes in outdoor locations for most of the film, only using natural lighting during the shoot and the willingness to use minimal CGI when only necessary (the bear attack) is beyond impressive, but then again, Inarritu directed Birdman and did a fantastic job of making the movie seem like one long, seamless take. It's nothing short of a master class in direction with Inarritu pushing his own boundries in storytelling and technique and he succeeds spectacularly.
The score by Ryuchi Sakamoto is excellent, as are the preformances from the cast - Domhall Gleeson in particular made an impression and has had a fantastic year with this, Ex Machina and Star Wars all in the same year.
