Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
Re: Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
Imagine if the concept of Halo, met Groundhog Day, and plotted with Independence Day - this is Edge of Tomorrow.
Somehow managed to enjoy the offering. I thought there some aspects of clever writing to it, and merging comedy with repetitiveness, the formula which drew Groundhog Day to its success, has sequentially been adopted to this instalment. However, it does lack elements of what makes a good sci-fi, bearing no real descriptions of the enemy’s purpose of conquest. More delinquent was the ending, which as usually portrayed the protagonist never fails and all we’re all left to rejoice in his salvation – in a literal sense.
The credence of Cruise/Blunt was an autonomous fail, no real chemistry and again a painful portrayal by Cruise who strives for an Oscar in every performance, but results in a screech left by cats in sexual arousal. Also another similarity of Emily Bunt’s character resembling Sarah Palmer from the HALO game – I hope some may find this very similar.
I would recommend it, one for a past-time but by no means is it really a sci-fi adventure.
Re: Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
I went to see this today, I thought it was entertaining. I honestly have always been a fan of Tom Cruise, his dumb religion beliefs aside, since I've grown up watching his movies since I was a kid going to see Top Gun in the theater. I've like the scifi flicks he has been making lately, I think they've had interesting plots vs. standard fare.
I thought he and emily Blunt did a good job and the robots were pretty cool to watch....it is worth a watch IMO.
Also here is the song from the trailer:

Saw this at IMAX - very cool. Well worth it.
Nothing ground breaking, but action from start to finish, not too much of a love story to fuck things up, great graphics (and sound effects).
I did not think that Tom Cruise was overly Tom Cruise - which deffo helped.
As long as you are expecting just a blockbuster film - its well worth the watch.

Re: Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
Still gotta watch this and X-Men.
Re: Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
Quite enjoyed this, though I feel that the better comparison for this would be Source Code mixed in with Starship Troopers.
It was refreshing to see Tom Cruise start out playing against type - playing an outright coward who eventually becomes, well, the guy we usually expect from a Tom Cruise movie.
It was nice to see Doug Liman back in the director's seat and making an engaging film again, which he really hasn't done since Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Jumper sucked balls).
Ending's a wee bit murky with the logic, but I could deal with it.

I thought so as well, minus the Starship Troopers bit.
Conceptually, the time-loop, the phenomenal design of the Aliens, and how the movie was edited to play out without getting overly redundant was, in my opinion, extremely well done. Source code actually started getting to me at one point. The way they've played out the future in repeating times and played out the present in an unsaid already occurred time was very nicely done.
I haven't enjoyed a SciFi flick so much since Prometheus and even though I did enjoy Oblivion with Cruise, I think he outdid himself in this one.
I personally didn't think the ending was puzzling, I thought the Omega, in its dying last instances, tried yet again to create yet its final time jump in an attempt to survive its final moments, only to have lost out and inevitably sending Tom back through it.
Some serious drugs must have gone through conceptualizing this story.
Give it a solid 7/10
Re: Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
Loved it.
The ending is illogical because although Tom Cruise went back to the start of the movie and everything appeared the same, humans had already won the war due to mysterious energy explosion in France.
Re: Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
^ Ha even though I read this before watching it, it didn't make sense until I saw the ending. Put the ending down to the best weed the guy ever smoked before he wrote it.
Saying all that, what a legend movie. Best one the goose and I have watch so far this year
Re: Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
This one is definitely next up... its been a while since I have seen a good Sci-Fi... I think its finally out on DVD now.
