Re: Terra Nova
It's a wasted opportunity considering the budget sunk into it. A team of people going back to the dawn of time to restart civilisation in the hopes of avoiding an apocalyptic future had a nice ring to it: I think from a socio-political context you could wipe out everything we know, learn from our mistakes, and recreate a new civilisation. If the old Star Trek TNG writers had a go at Terra Firma I'm sure they could've whipped up something better.
Instead what we have is a typical viewer-friendly family set up sent back in time, typical family nonsense and drama set in Jurassic Park, and a hint of some bigger conspiracy story. The husband getting all jealous and alpha male over the wife, the soldier courting the daughter, the son and his new delinquent friends, made me wanna puke.
I can imagine a predictable conflict between the military leadership and civilians at some point, which Stargate Universe already covered.
Terra Fail.
The other Spielberg vehicle Falling Skies is slightly more interesting and creepier.
