This is most likely going to puzzle the hell out of people, since it feels like it's own film, and not a sequel (and I don't mean that in a good way). While it is directed by Hideo Nakata (who directed Dark Water - which is being remade with Jennifer Connily this spring), and he has done the other Japanese Ring sequels, this feels pretty far out in left field. The idea that made the first so interesting is pretty much eliminated, choosing more to go the path of an Exorcist route of plot.

I wasn't terribly impressed. It does have some scares, but I couldn't dig it.

Re: The Ring Two

I thought the first Ring was lame...

especially the part with the horse on the boat. I thought that part was so gay, I was worried the DVD was going to pop out of the player and try stick it in my bum.

If you wanna check out a truly scary movie, in my opinion, rent Session 9

I enjoyed Ringu, but never could appreciate The Ring Virus (which was the first attempt at a squel and promptly rejected by the Japanese public) and Ring 0 and Ring 2 (the better received sequel to Ringu) made the mistake of doing what kills the best horror films - it tries to explain everything.

Session 9 I quite dug, but they should have lopped off the last 5 minutes or so, bothering too much to explain everything. Once the twist was revealed, they should have faded to black and ended the film.

The Ring was ok.

Re: The Ring Two

The Ring Two was terrible! The first Ring was pretty much like the Japanese original with little differences. I haven't seen the Japanese sequel, but the American version is just awful. Worst movie I've seen this year besides Darkness.

Re: The Ring Two

Yeah, I wasn't very impressed with The Ring two either. There was somthing about the story that I didn't like. The first one imo is better, since it seemed to keep tension built more throughout the film. There was somthing about the whole story of the boy I just didn't get into....

Actually, Darkness isn't a bad film, provided you see the uncut international version. The recut North American release, however, was total shit.
