Yeah, it'll have to be a new story and characters anyway. I can't imagine them doing a sequel to this since as most people pointed out 1) original cast too old, 2) in the story universe, the replicants don't live long enough to have roles in a sequel.

But it would be awesome if they could build on the Blade Runner universe and follow up with the same dystopian mood and tone, and they better get Vangelis to score! The opening scene of Blade Runner is still magical to me today.

Please do not ruin this. I know for a fact Hollywood is officially running out of ideas, Hence the sequels, but not Blade Runner. Such an awesome movie.

I guess the good thing being, the original Blade Runner was self-contained; so they can't ruin that.

I think I'll have an opinion of this after I see what he's done with the quasi prequel to Alien that's coming out - Prometheus. Seems like he wants to do movies that might exist in the same universe of his earlier work, but with a tangent to the relationship to it.
