Finally watched this movie last night..... fucking BRILLIANT production.... dont know the real story (if this is based on one) but I thought all the actors did a bang up job and the twists in the plot just kept getting better....

the only thing I didn't like was how they wiped off our hero towards the end....

the one thing I LOVED about this flick was the speed at which the movie travelled..... things weren't happening too fast or too slow.... the plot kept developing at the right speed..... though they could've lost the GLADIATOR chiquita singing at all the wrong times in the movie..... at some points I thought they dropped her moans just cause they couldn't figure out what the fuck to stick in there

i havent seen it yet, i've been hesitant because of pitt. i think he is too much of a prety boy to play this role..is he any good?

*dont get me wrong i enjoy brad pitt movies

isnt it based on the iliad? good movie anyways

#364529Post 4 of 24

It's based very loosely on the Illiad, but they remove the Dieties from the equation. I thought Brad Pitt did a decent job of acting the part of a legend buying into his own hype, and the scale of the battles were quite well done. I really thought that Eric Bana (who played Hector) did a great job, acting as the guardian and protector to not only Troy but to his younger brother (played so daintily by Orlando Bloom that he reeks of estrogen).

Not bad, a bit overdone and this could have been so much better.

I liked how during a battle, they would just stop fighting, and have two people settle it. somthing you dont see in many movies with war.

well directed expensive fulltime crap imo. don't like the movies that doesn't make me think after |the end|

definately the best performance in the movie

Yeah.. very loose adapation of the Illiad - the war was supposed to have occured over tens of years, whereas in the movie it seemed like days?

And yes, as pointed out, lacked the gods in it.

Re: Troy

not a bad movie. just watched it last night for the first time. im a brad pitt fan for sure but this movie was all hollywood. i found it hard to believe in some spots. for instance, the lighting is perfect in every scene. and they make pitt out to be a male model basically. he's so beautiful in this movie he hardly looks like a warrior. some of the battle scenes were cool though. and the fight between achilles and hector was pretty good too. over all rating 3/5 :NotMe:

Re: Troy

watched this a few times and dug it, yes to the battle and death for honor themes, but i'm shocked to read that people think Pitt was good. what's with that accent and stilted delivery? he was only great when he's screaming for Hector--a roll that, yesyesyes, Bana absolutely killed :)

Re: Troy

Honestly, this movie would have sunk faster than the Titanic if not for Brad Pitt's butt. The movie tried to cover a 10 year war in an hour. It did not succeed. It is worth seeing in the theatre just once, even though it is far from epic, it is still a good movie :D

p.s.but if your looking for a bloody war movie with great characters, go rent Saving Private Ryan

Re: Troy

i thought troy was great. i've seen it prolly a handfull of times and still love it. i thought pitt did a great job. i thought it was a little overdone, but when i thought about it, that's how the book was.. everything dramtic, timeless hereos etc.

Re: Troy

God this movie sucked. I don't know how they managed to make a movie that both butchers the original story through omission, yet at the same time is painfully long, but by god they pulled it off.

I will give credit in that it is visually grand and has several decent fight scenes, but it is all without any substance. Peter O'Toole does his best to give it some credibility and Eric Bana deserves better. For me it was an empty and tedious experience.

The least they could do would be to show Helen's titties, I mean let me see what all the fuss is about

2/5

Re: Troy

i really liked the movie specially the fight between brad and eric pretty cool you have to agree, but i think the hole movie is around brad pitt, doesnt it?.....

Re: Troy

Obviously it is unfortunate that they did not stick to the Iliad strictly, but I still thought the movie was very good. Pitt was excellent as the penultimate yet tortured hero Achilles. Still, I must agree with the others. why not show the gods? They were the backbone of the Iliad and while it is an interesting spin to show the story through mortal eyes, this is not the way our Ancient Greek ancestors would have thought of the story. This is the story that Alexander memorized (as did countless other Greek youths as per the schooling standards of the day) and took with him as he tried to equal Achilles tasks in the eyes of the gods as he crossed Asia and India.

For that reason alone I believe the story deserves the 'proper treatment' in oprigianl form for the movie. Just look at how Clash of The Titans made use of Olivier as Zeus!

Re: Troy

I watched this last night and all I can say is wow. I can't believe how retarded this movie is. I had no clue who to root for while the story repeatedly bounced back and forth between the sides. plus, shit was going on that made no sense. stuff like immediately after all the fights, the characters were suddenly clean. or when people died they suddenly had a huge pedestal standing on top of a 15-foot-tall sand foundatation. or that 50,000 men march into war, one man who has nothing to do with the war dies, and everybody suddenly decides to stop fighting?! across the entire coast? bullshit. the effects were great, but the story royally sucked. 2 pickles imo... one for acting and one for graphics.
