Hi guys. I saw Digweed last Sat night here in Sydney (about 7th or 8th time i've seen him) and he played one of the best sets i've ever witnessed.

The set was quite driving the whole way. He started with some tribal elements early on with some wicked rolling bass lines and progressed to the more typical darker Digweed sound but with some nice almost funky basslines then finished with some of the hardest, most intense stuff (not techno) i've heard him play.(apologies for crap descriptions)

My question is, whilst I have a lot of Digweed sets, I don't have anything that sounds remotely like the sound he was playing on Sat. Much of the recent stuff of his I have is a lot "lighter" and then of course I have a lot 1999 - 2003 period when prog for me was at it's peak. Can anyone recommend sets of his from more recent years that I could find that would be of the harder, darker style?

I can't help with any tunes played on the night as I'm not a trainspotter although for anyone who's interested, here's a link to a forum of the night with some tunes mentioned: http://www.inthemix.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=268735&page=19

thanks and fingers crossed!!

The last hour of his Easter-set from Bedrock at Matter in 2009 is pretty fucking banging.

Re: Any suggestions please?

Yes, the Bedrock 10.5 set is necessary listening material. The passage leading up to and including Dolphin Smack in the second hour is sublime.

Re: Any suggestions please?

Maybe also try John's two hours from Inox 2007? http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FV9G5KRI Though the sound quality could be improved upon, musically I've ran out of superlatives to describe this, especially the first hour

Re: Any suggestions please?

got the Bedrock 10.5's, Croatia and Inox so thanks guys for all the reco's. Some very tasty stuff in amongst them; especially Part 2 of Bedrock 10.5

I'd say Part 4 of Bedrock 10.5 is closest to the sound I was after all up. feel free to keep them coming though!

Re: Any suggestions please?

While we are on the subject of recommendations, anyone know which would be the most "minimalist" sounding set by Digweed?

(Hope I"m not hijacking the thread mate - didn't want to start a new one)

Try his mix from Fabric in 2007 (check archives for May 27th).....10 Days Off mix from 2008.....the first hour of the 2008 Zouk set is quite spare but hypnotic

You should try some of these sets mate, I've always felt Digweed is the master, even when it comes to "minimal", there is something very captavating about the tracks he spins. (This coming from someone who loves his "bangy" stuff ALL the time)

Over the years I've always thought I had a pretty open mind with music but there are 2 periods of Prog I just never got into Breaks/Prog and later on Minimal/Prog. Both just left me cold.

Thank goodness we've found melody again and the "chug" is making a comeback I say!:)
