Major buffering issues! I bailed and went back to facebook. I cant understand why they bother with such a high definition video if they cant manage the buffering!

The sound quality is far better on Mixcloud, the buffering sorts itself out after a bit. Anecdotally if you go full screen with no chat it's more stable

I used JDownloader and the file Mixcloud Select spat out was 68kbps AAC M4A

Basically all mixcloud M4A files are 68 kbps.. However what is important is the source file, the one that originally is being uploaded.. The video is impossible to rip (at least for us ordinary mortals), it's DRM protected like Netflix and Prime Video. I did a test recording a few minutes of the set with Audacity and the audio quality was around 145k.

Great set. Best for a few weeks IMO. Last couple have been a little disappointing (by John's high standards I hasten to add! Still very good and the highlight of my week at the moment).

Awesome set last night!

Last week was a bust, but this week I listened on MixCloud on my laptop (not phone) using Chrome full screen with a hard-wired ethernet connection instead of Wifi and it worked pretty well. I could see the video stuttering from time to time, but the music kept up with almost no buffering.

I use a 4G router with about 36Mb down and 20 up and I go into the QoS settings on the router to prioritise bandwidth to my laptop and away from the kids' Netflix and Prime.

It's a good set, as per the second hour is the best. Unfortunately I did not watch it live because I'm not in a great shape, again.

Yep, I think that's accurate.

Basically, Mixcloud, Mixcloud Select, and Mixcloud Live, all seem to use a lowpass at 16538 Hz – 17071 Hz which in LAME encoder terminology is the equivalent of an mp3 at 130kbps CBR or an mp3 at 120–150kbps VBR.

Our ears can't hear above those frequencies actually, but the problem is that during the encoding in such low bitrates most encoders do those annoying glitches in high frequencies...

The underlying HLS stream .m3u8 is publicly accessible since no registration is needed to watch Mixcloud Live.

You should be able to save to disk via something like ffmpeg -i [url="http://.../master.m3u8"]http://.../master.m3u8[/url] -c copy -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc output.mp4 Then from the mp4 container you can demux the audio without re-encoding.

The only tricky part is to get the master.m3u8 URL where the HLS stream comes from, as I think everytime it changes.

It'd be so great if Mixcloud Live saved the videos to be available later, or for offline view.
