Is the Mixcloud Select thing freely available after a few days or is it a proper pay account?

If you pay you're able to listen the new "Transitions" each friday, otherwise that show will be available for all of us saturday or sunday.

Yep, just keep in mind that Mixcloud (also Mixcloud Select and Mixcloud Premium) stream AAC in the equivalent of a ~144kbps MP3.

DI.FM streams something like ~192/256 encoded as 320kbps MP3.

Re: Transitions 816 ● John Digweed with a guest mix Satoshi Fumi

isnt the select stuff quality better than regular stream?

Re: Transitions 816 ● John Digweed with a guest mix Satoshi Fumi

No, not from what I could tell. They both do Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) and the MPEG segments are the same. The advantage of the paid plan is that you get exclusive content, and some content upfront before going public, and also the ability to download on your device. It is worth it for sure. I've been always on Mixcloud Select so I can also support Digweed and all the other artists whose tracks are played on Transitions.

The Transitions pre-broadcast copies were almost always 320kbps (think I had one that had been encoded as a 192kbps). I had a source who used to supply them to me on condition I didn't share them until after broadcast in case it got traced back to him. Unfortunately they changed the way they handle the files a few years back (as I understand it) and the FTP they were held on disappeared, so that source sadly dried up. I'm sure other shows DI.FM broadcast are in 192 or 256. For example, someone did a spectral analysis on one of the Sasha Last Night On Earth podcasts they broadcast in 320k where the podcast itself was in (IIRC) 192k, and it was just effectively an up-encode of the podcast version. Think it depends on the quality of the source file, but the stream itself is always in 320k as you rightly say.

Excellent! Is it the same Transitions episodes compared? If so, which ones?
