The Z is the first single to be taken from Stelios Vassiloudis (aka Stel) forthcoming debut album for Bedrock and is yet another release from the label that should not be missed.
The original version of The Z is a sophisticated, subtle, hip wiggling, percussion led beauty that builds in intensity, throbs and ebbs and flows with supreme ease. Germanys [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=91"]Steve Bug[/URL] toughens and tightens up the bottom-end, adding some superb handclaps and turning up the pressure to create a hissing intro build, before adding some stunning detuned elements into his interpretation. Finally, Spains Simon Garcia moves away from the percussion-led attitude of the previous versions, creating a more techno inspired remix, full of towering hypnotic synths and hissing hi-hats. The Z is undoubtedly a masterful creation and yet another superb package from Bedrock.
You may have already heard Stel on Bedrock recently in his [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=276"]Wiretappeur[/URL] guise (his collaboration with [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=273"]Florian Kruse[/URL] and Nils Nurnberg) with the much loved Everybody Loves Ice Cream EP. [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=276"]Wiretappeur[/URL] releases regularly hit the Top 5 of the Beatport charts and their deep house vibes and warm sounds have been firm favourites of many acclaimed DJ's.
Working so closely with Bedrock has resulted in Stel signing an album deal with the label (scheduled for release in late October/early November). Along with his solo productions, the album also includes collaborations with some key artists and guest vocalists. Presented over two discs, the album commences with a beautiful cinematic soundscape on CD1 whereas CD2 allows Stel to showcase his club sound, which develops from a deep house grooves right through to a techier vibe. Both discs are exquisitely mixed, with each track immersing itself into the next and are set to become a critically acclaimed debut album from this very talented artist.
Stel is a musician, producer and DJ who has released music under various monikers and aliases over the last 5 years, racking up an impressive discography with, for example, releases on Bedrock, Moodmusic, Fresh Meat and Dieb Audio. His in demand production skills have also garnered numerous remix opportunities for a wide range of artists such as: John Digweed, King Roc, [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=177"]Sasse[/URL], [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=261"]Sander Kleinenberg[/URL] and [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=402"]Shlomi Aber[/URL], among others. In 1996 he started the highly respected Moodmusic label, which was followed by the birth of Sunday Music, a musical platform for [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=177"]Sasse[/URL] and [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=981"]Henrik Schwarz[/URL] to release their productions. The One Records crew are immovably positioning themselves at the forefront of their game, with the celebration of the tenth release on the label, which comes as a two part digital series that demonstrates the increasingly thrilling mark that One Records is imprinting on underground house music.
The now Berlin based label, driven by Subb-an and Adam Shelton, clearly gets to the point in part one with five solid tracks from Alex Arnout, Jordan Peak, [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=1097"]Jef K[/URL] & [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=1096"]Gwen Maze[/URL], Julien Sandre and John Dimas.
London based Alex Arnout provides the first track on the compilation and easily sets the standard. Alexs previous release on the label was nothing short of genius and dominated dance floors around the world with support from the likes of [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=120"]Seth Troxler[/URL] and [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=1237"]Shaun Reeves[/URL]. His next contribution Move On echoes a similar feel to Vanishing Point, as a solid deep club track that emits smoothness, with a deep rounded bass, underlying atmospheric building keys that rise into a prominent old school string.
The next track comes from [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=1097"]Jef K[/URL] & [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=1096"]Gwen Maze[/URL] who are part of the powerful and unstoppable, French crew. Girl Meets Boy lures you in with deep, warm pads, while the simple but effective vocal drives the track over the solid groove and rolling keys.
You Dont See by John Dimas is the most dance floor driven on the compilation, packed with perfect late night grooves. Key synths create a prominent element to the track that contrast perfectly with the dubby beats.
Jordan Peaks second release on the label, Wisdom of Words will undoubtedly make you move but exposes an effortless, deeper side to Jordans production skills, compared to the straight up dance floor house we have previously seen from the young producer. The chugging base, old Detroit sounding keys, and subtle classic vocal demonstrate solid house at its best.
Julien Sandres Vibrationist steals the ear with a full and rounded bass line groove. The pitched down, deep and echoing vocal creates a dimension in the track that rolls over the synths that surface as the track develops. This release fully confirms that One Records mean business, with this seamless selection of enigmatic, sturdy dance floor classics. The label is clearly leaping from strength to strength. Despite releasing on a slew of seminal imprints (Cocoon, Supplement Facts, the now defunct Freak n' Chic), David K still remains something of an unknown entity outside of his native France, operating somewhere just under the radar of the labels that house his tracks. So while his is an impressive, versatile discography, it's also one that all too often lies practically dormant amongst the work of the scene's more prominent figures. How apt then that he's decided to shy away from the major labels this time around then, with the âSomewhere in my Head EP the debut release on [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=731"]Varoslav[/URL]'s recently curated Rue de Plaisance imprint.
The title track makes for a sturdy, robust tech-house offering too, with various keys, acid squelches and a whaling vocal acting as a particular highlight. While the meandering kicks do occasionally grate the ears, such issues don't pervade [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=563"]Deetron[/URL]'s remix - as the Swiss' career renaissance continues unabated on a more groove oriented tip.
Supplement Facts mainstay [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=731"]Varoslav[/URL] then goes deep on his interpretation, stripping Opium's primary lyrical contribution in favour of some erratic synths and a more raw, purposefully unkempt vibe. A slow burner that takes time to come to fruition, it's another tidy number that further accentuate the original's appeal.
The packages standout moment however, is reserved for that man [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=563"]Deetron[/URL] again, as his dub mix complete with forceful, drum-laced interplay - grants the original a tougher perspective.
Another original, Lost in Bangkok, culminates RDP's inaugural outing with a looping organ laden bassline that (alongside its undercurrent of percussion) makes for a finely cohesive effort. K's homage to the Thai capital mirrors much of the city (and indeed, this EP) in that it's always unpredictable, occasionally menacing and ultimately enjoyable. Here's to hoping they continue in a similar vein of form.

[New Release] Finally out is the long anticipated EP from Inxec and Droog called Westbound on Crosstown Rebels. Ive literally been hooked to the title track since I first heard it in the beginning of April from the video below (Recap from [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=91"]Steve Bug[/URL] Culprit Sessions 17). Inxec & Droog make a fantastic pairing here, lending their skills to yet another smash Crosstown release. In addition to the title track, Inxec & Droog put forth three other gems on this EP including Unhinged, rivaling Westbound as the star of the release. Well done, full support here.

Choice trans-Atlantic partnership Inxec vs Droog deliver The Westbound EP, their spellbinding debut offering on Crosstown Rebels. LA based Culprit label bosses Droog and Brit techno accomplice Inxec strike that all-important balance between magnetic dancefloor appeal and impeccably smooth and compelling production, a sure fire winner thats got DC-10 written all over it.
A-side Westbound is replete in eerie techno soul. Ghostly, disengaged Hispanic influences echo through the eerie infectious riveting groove showcasing this effortless example of techno-balearica, a monster of track!! Murkier still, Accidental is a melancholic ride along a dubby elastic bassline with sweeping ambient techno circled by a haunting female cry.
Flip over to the B-side as it all gets hypnotic, deep and sexy Unhinged is laced with sinister dissonant chords, out of which emerges a soul-piercing female voice, sensual and strange. Finally Sleepless Knights is structured around arpeggiated, bubbling synths, housey and full of warmth, the atmosphere is perfect both deep spaced out dance-floors at dawn, this gem is bathed in sunshine and another absolute killer! Sprawling and sanguine, Sleepless Knights could be an anthem for just that.All hail the dream team and may they go to the dark side and back, again.

While I would ordinarily be worried about one British guy going up against three guys from LAespecially if those guys have a label called Culprit and an artist alias called Droogthe results of this collaborative/combative EP make it seem like everyone's a winner: four excursions into moody, spellbinding tech house that are among the best that Crosstown has put out this year.
The mercurial, multi-directional title track comes loaded with trippy motifs, and of the four tracks seems the most overtly composed by a group, with everyone's contributions getting whittled down into dreamlike slivers that occasionally pop in out of nowhere. The fat synths lay coiled like rattlesnakes and will occasionally lash out in trance-y bursts, while half-rapped vocals and redneck exclamations about "waking up places that you don't know how you got there" are sure to confuse you.
"Unhinged" takes the [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=126"]spooky[/URL] formula and wraps it around an uptempo house jack and haunting, wobbly-pitched vocal for what is perhaps the record's standout track. The lyric "pulling me...closer..." is sung in an eerie way that straddles the line between sensual and creepy, a reminder of the element of vertigo that underlies all forms of seduction.
"Sleepless Knights" is a trashy, almost French-housey burner that confirms this EP is a bit like a mullet haircut: business in the front, party in the rear, with the preppy, well-tailored grooves of the title track strongly contrasting with the bombast of "Sleepless Knights." It plateaus in a touch of cleverly emotive synth-pop before spiraling into twinkly outer spacea bit like the Pet Shop Boys caught in a furious k-hole.

Sweden's [URL="http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?id=489"]Ida Engberg[/URL] debut's on her homeland's techno institution, Drumcode, this fall with a two track EP of persistent electronic funk, the 'Blue Yonder' EP.
Having developed a formidable reputation over the past five years as a DJ, Engberg's relationship with the family began a year ago with a ferocious EP for the Drumcode sister label Truesoul, it was only a matter of time before a Drumcode EP was sealed.
Ida Engberg's reputation for tight grooves paired with dominating hooks has served her very well over the years and it's these tools in her increasingly varied production arsenal that are at the forefront of the 'Blue Yonder' release.
The title has a strong house undercurrent, which is rare for a Drumcode release, but it steadily gives way to a tapestry of looping atmospherics and repetitive percussion hits that slowly start to make Drumcode sense. The overall urgency of 'Blue Yonder' is further pressed home with the shuffling, pulsing sub-bass that rattles underneath the detailed production. Finished off with heavily effected vocals which both unnerve and excite, it's an A-side you don't want to miss out on.
'Junoverse' on the flip displays yet more of Engberg's canny abilities in terms of arrangements and tension/release moments. The drums are relentless from the off but are built upon throughout which seems to push the track to at least two moments of fever pitch, and that's without taking into account the classic 'Vibrate' vocal samples, the brilliantly OTT rave horn and deft drops. Measured and balanced stuff, but not at the expense of sheer energetic weight.

Killer and diverse four-tracker from Señor Bashmore, the first for new London label, PMR Records. Most notably Julio diverts his energies into two new areas with the cannily dubbed-out disco triplets of 'Everyone Needs A Theme Tune' and even a slouchy future boogie cruise on 'The Horn That Time Forgor'. Back in more familiar terrain, 'Battle For Middle You' infuses a DirtyBird style deep burner with a sweetly filtered Detroit drop and 'Ask Yourself' floats off on a bed of 808 bass hits and breezy tropical synth pads.
