01. Yunus - Meeting Molly (Guy J Mix) [Lost & Found | Promo]
It's great to see Istanbul's Yunus Güvenen back with a production. Yunus broke onto the scene with three EPs for progressive house label Silver Planet Recordings before getting signed to Bedrock wit his Invasion and Collective EPs. On the remix front Yunus has taken on Heaven Scent, Lustral's 'Everytime' and Sasha's Wavy Gravy.
The original of 'Meeting Molly' appeared a year ago on Resident 108. Now we see a Guy J Remix.

03. Tim Green - Plenty Of Spiders (Crossing Wires 002 Compilation) [My Favorite Robot Records | MFR102]
Following the inaugural 'Crossing Wires' compilation by Toronto trio My Favorite Robot, next to mix it up for the exciting series is global electronic music icon Timo Maas. Still riding high off the success of his latest and greatest full length release, 'Lifer,' back in 2013 (which blended trip hop with ambient, sleazy house with wonky techno, and included collaborations with the likes of Placebo's Brian Molko and Brighton chanteuse Katie Cruel as well as James Lavelle, founder of seminal '90s label Mo Wax) Timo has long been a pioneer in his field. Of course, he also runs his own influential label, Rockets & Ponies. The German producer has also appeared on My Favorite Robot Records before with standout track "Dancing For My Pleasure" from the first 'Crossing Wires 001.'
Timo is also a revered DJ and in 2013 celebrated 10 years as resident at one of underground house and techno's most mythologized clubs: Circo Loco at DC10 out in Ibiza. As such, this new 'Crossing Wires 002' compilation draws on his skills as both selector and sequencer and proves few can do it better than this long-standing talent. The mix features 14 brand new and exclusive tracks from a range of artists old and new - some are closely associated with MFR, some less so, but together they paint a perfect picture of the state of modern electronic music.
Man of the moment Eric Volta kicks things off with the serene synth stylings of "Dreams Don't Turn to Dust," a suitably lush affair that sets a soothing tone. From there we soon drop into a compelling groove courtesy of My Favorite Robot's "Dead of the Dance" and Timo masterfully balances the tempo through his ensuing selections. Never does he get stuck in one place for too long, instead coherently going from spaced out sci-fi house (Discern & Signal Flow's "Coarse Language") to tripped-out tech (Tim Green's "Plenty of Spiders") and kinetic and synthetic sounds (Martin Buttrich's "Bubble Heat") with ease. Timo's own productions appear twice, first in the form of the growling, shadowy "Watching The Robots" then in collaboration with long time partner Santos on "Z Panorama." Tracks and remixes from Chris Carrier, Villanova and Daniel Stefanik then make up the latter half of the mix in which energy levels are kept up and heady, futuristic imagery is never far away.
This is a compelling mix that showcases both the modern sound of house and techno whilst proving that Timo Mass has an understanding of dance-floor dynamics that few could ever question.

06. Zusammenklang - By Your Side (The One EP) [SOSO | SOSO04]
SOSO is the playground from and for Oliver Schories and friends to showcase the variety of intelligent contemporary electronic (dance) music.
Bremen-based producer Zusammenklang makes his debut appearance on Oliver Schories’s label SOSO, though he’ll already be known from earlier releases on the likes of Der Turnbeutel and Parquet. ‘The One’ is a 4-track EP marking the label’s fourth release, and offering a number of distinctive angles on Zusammenklang’s core deep house sound.
The title track features a warm melody and strings over a low slung bassline, while the breakdown introduces the ‘You are the one’ vocal refrain and turns the melody into a more urgent, swirling hook, before the bassline rolls back into town and the track nicely picks up momentum again.
Absolutely stealing the show here is ‘Don’t Move’, a record that I’ve had more or less on repeat since I first heard it. Like the other tracks on the EP, the sounds are familiar ones, drawing heavily on 90s-style house to give the track quite a retro feel. But every element of the track works an absolute treat here, from the scorching bassline and total earworm of a main hook, to the cool stabs and percussion and the twisted but evocative vocal sample. Together these elements just fizz, and the track as a whole demonstrates a perfect balance between outstanding production values on the one hand, and soul, funk, and feeling on the other. I can’t recommend this enough – superb work from Zusammenklang on this one.
‘By Your Side’ quickly introduces a low-key theme and a pulsing, subtle bass part that interacts well with the other melodic and vocal ideas, as well as the second, nastier bass. The track doesn’t really come into its own until the second half, though, where a gentle and surprising trancey melody takes the lead.
Finally, ‘Blow Away’ sports a gentle intro, featuring organs and a sweet vocal sample, before dropping into an understated shuffling groove. A hazy synth part pulls the track forward, before the breakdown gives the track a real highlight, echoing the intro while adding some soaring strings and plucked melodies, and bringing the vocal work to the fore.
‘Don’t Move’ is the star here, for my money, but fans of melodic and intelligent deep house will find much to enjoy across Zusammenklang’s whole EP.
