Re: Not promoting drugs here...
^^ sound like bull to me...pun intended :)
anyway the three active ingrediants in red bull are: Caffeine, Taurine and Glucuronolactone. None of these would accumulate in your body...for any periods of time. That said red bull is nasty stuff...and should be taken with great caution IMO. Just like any serious supplement or drug.
Taurine increases the amount of potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium into and out of the cells, these ions being involved in nerve signals, acting as an inhibitory neurotransmitter (and mild sedative) and antioxidant. But most researches have shown that taurine does not give more energy, even if it might help in decreasing muscle fatigue and it potentially steadies irregular heartbeats.
Glucuronolactone is produced by the liver and it is also found in many plant gums. It is believed to fight against fatigue, being a stimulant and boosting memory and concentration. It increases the serotonin ("well-being") hormone levels. But it won't grow wings.
Caffeine seems to be Red Bull's most active component. This alkaloid found in coffee and guarana and even in tea and chocolate, works by stimulating your brain, the same as amphetamines, cocaine, and heroin do. A 300 ml of caffeinated energy drink contains the caffeine quantity from an 150 ml cup of coffee.

The potential side effects of each ingredient alone and in conjunction with each other is up for debate, as modern science has yet to develop and any concrete health-related drawbacks.

And yet prescription medicine kills double the number of people as illicit drugs. US stats.

its big business m8 so its marketed like anything else
Re: Not promoting drugs here...
the makers of prescription meds know that the product isn't always perfect and are always looking to produce new less damaging medicine, so by promoting it as much as they can helps aid in that process as they are getting valuable info on how it effects each patient thus helping them improve their product, these guys can take a side effect of a medicine and narrow down what particular part of that medicine is causing the side effect in labs, i cant exactly see the guys that first cooked up meth running around in a panic when they see just how damaging it is to a human
Re: Not promoting drugs here...
Anything in moderation is the key. Just because it not legal it doesn't mean its not safe it's just a social stance. People running about on LSD would make a great society. I've done alsorts and couldn't care less what its been cut with, thats the chose you take when you buy it. The body is an amazingly resilient thing. If you need any convincing look at your local park tramp who eat no nutrients and drinks a bottle of vodka a day he's still alive. Happy Days

True. Street drugs like meth and crack are definately worse on an INDIVIDUAL basis, than your average pharmaceutical. I emphasize on the individual, because the prescriptions are being taken in such quanities the subtleties are damaging to an entire society. Your above statement all but verifies that we are their guinea pigs. These pills are released before we truly understand any of the long-term effects. I think I'll stick with weed.

Re: Not promoting drugs here...
thanks! everyone should watch these
Re: Not promoting drugs here...
I actually downloaded that by accident first time...was looking for a documentary on the expansion of Marketing as a discipline...tracking the growth of industry over time but got this instead :) I think its especially relevant in the West particularly USA of course...the prescription market doesn't seem to be as big in Europe.

Eh, I watched the first one and I am already skeptical of their comments. I'll agree that many people can self-heal themselves without meds, but there are many people who need treatment because there are certainly chemical imbalances. The documentary looks to have more shock and awe. There's more to Bipolar Disorder than 'ups and downs' and there's more to depression than feeling down.

Could largely be due to regulations which aren't necessarily always a good thing. I'll have to get into this after I finish my exam in a few months. Just thought I'd drop in and plays devil advocate quickly.
