From Windows 7 to an Apple 27" iMac as of today.
I've finally made the switch. God damn this screen is amazing!
Anyone else recently switched over to a Mac? Keen to hear your thoughts/experience

I initially just needed a monitor for my photography (24" or something) but it quickly turned into me talking myself into a 27" iMac. Hey, it's only money and you can't take it with you!
The guts are:
3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 4GB (two 2GB) memory 1TB hard drive1 AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB
It expands to 16GB so it should last me quite awhile.
I cannot wait to use photoshop :D
Re: I've joined the dark side!
Well done !! :D A photographer friend of mine has one of these , and he is a brilliant photographer!! :D
Re: I've joined the dark side!

Re: I've joined the dark side!
Congrats!!! been using Macs since the 80's. I had to learn how to use a windows machine in 2005 at work LOL. We have a MacBookPro, MacBook, and an aging G5 with a 30" screen. Go big or go home!!!

Re: I've joined the dark side!
2010 Macbook pro, 2007 white macbook, and about to buy an ipad 2 soon for work. I personally made the switch 3 years ago, it was sort of life changing because it was just so damn user friendly compared to the dell's and toshiba's I had gotten used to. I love everything about these computers.
If you have any real technical questions, diegoff can probably answer them ;)

Cinema display. Beautiful.
Re: I've joined the dark side!
I've got a cinema display, but it isn't that big !!
Re: I've joined the dark side!
I've never been a fan of desktop Macs. The main reason being that for the amount of money an iMac/MacPro costs you can build a PC that slaps the shit out of it. Hope it doesnt come with that magic mouse which is just plain bs IMO. A cornflake box is more ergonomical than it... This pic also represents another truth about iMacs hehe.
Still i got a Macbook Pro 13" and wouldnt change it for anything. At least until a higher res display for the 13" comes out.
Cinema display. Beautiful.
Thanks!!! I'm lucky enough to use two of those at work as well. :D

That's amazing. They're great displays.

They're not the most comfortable, you're right. Basically you need to hold it differently... you can't "palm" it like a regular mouse. Once you figure this out it's not that bad.
Re: I've joined the dark side!
Congrats man! Sweet machine..
I don't think i can justify the price on them.. they don't do anything more than a normal PC running Windows or Linux

I see your point and felt this way before. I'm absolutely not going to say they're not more expensive than a normal PC with Windows but I think the gap is exaggerated.
First of all, you can't compare each machine on paper. Mac OS X requires far less system resource than Windows so a Mac on paper that looks inferior in hardware may actually out perform the comparison Windows machine. I prefer to look at 'performance' not 'hardware'... afterall, that's what matters right?
A friend bought an amazing PC recently (8gb ram with 24 monitor and the rest of the bells and whistles) and sure, the price he paid was less than an iMac... but not THAT much of a difference. Performance wise they'd be identical.
Re: I've joined the dark side!

Re: I've joined the dark side!
I´m mac user since the last year. PC no more, ever. Hope I can always buy mac, they´re expensive. But, just to begin, no virus!
Re: I've joined the dark side!
That is a big plus !! :D
Re: I've joined the dark side!
Iv been using Pc's for about 13 years now, i download shit, look at porn and all that shit and i have had one virus, i dunno how people manage it tbh.
Re: I've joined the dark side!
Late night post, didn't take. Just got an IMac for Final Cut Pro and overall the OS and other software have been easy to use and comprehend. Tend to keep MAC usage to work related projects but have more soundcloud pages saved on it than I can remember. Another convert, bring on the IPad 2 LOL.
Re: I've joined the dark side!
fucking signature is WIN!!
Re: I've joined the dark side!
I think till a mac can do this, no need to join the dark side. (BTW can run OSX in a virtual machine faster than you can run it on actual hardware...)

Re: I've joined the dark side!
Still on my 2009 MBP :)
Re: I've joined the dark side!
you joined the bright side
Re: I've joined the dark side!
hah..i love my mac but i had to put fucking parallels on it a few months back to run some shady software. it's cool to have a computer in a computer, but i think it's better to just get a VPS for like 20$/month

Re: I've joined the dark side!
I use an MBP with 2.16 Duo Core and 2GB ram at work, it's slooooooooooooow.
Re: I've joined the dark side!
mm the virus thing will catch up to osx.. the more users, the more reasons for them to be there. Just look at the market share windows has, who would bother writing viruses for macs ? Until they get at least 20% market share, viruses are no issue. The myth that mac are safer, is just that, a myth. If you look at the scale..it all makes sense. Just look at Android... there are probably more viruses for andorid, than for osx.Soon there will probably be more people using android, than people using osx. Actually, if you take market share and scale under consideration, Symbian has been the safest OS ever .. i know it is mobile, but still
Re: I've joined the dark side!
Viruses are due to user error more often than not.
