The Masters tournament started today with Paul Hunter (defending champion) vs. Steve Davis. It was a great and very exciting match. My match favourite, Davis, defeated Hunter in the deciding frame. He fluked the red and then won the frame and match.

Great great opening match!

Tomorrow Jimmy White will be in action. Can't wait! :D

A highest break of 42 here. 8)

Psynce, Jimmy is no longer called Jimmy White, he`s now called Jimmy Brown.

Jimmy gets saucy with name change

Snooker star Jimmy White is changing his name to Jimmy Brown, as part of a madcap sponsorship deal.

The Whirlwind decided on his new moniker following news that the brown ball in all major tournaments is to be backed by a sauce manufacturer.

Not only that, White will ditch his usual black tuxedo for the forthcoming Masters event in favour of a brown one.

"With a bit of luck, the name Jimmy Brown will be engraved on the Masters trophy at the end of next week," he said.

"The sponsorship of the brown ball really puts the fun back into snooker and, given my previous surname, I wanted to follow that lead.

"I think it is also up to the players to help liven up snooker's image and raise its profile, and I feel good to do my bit with the help of HP."

White, who changed his name by deed poll, plans to keep his new title for the duration of the Masters - and possibly even the World Championships.

"If I win the Masters I might keep it that way!" he said. "I'll just go through the tournament and go from there.

"The Godfather of Soul! I like it. Who knows - I might be James Brown for the rest of my career."[/quote]

Is that a joke? :?

@Chem: yes, sometimes. Last night I played a few frames against a friend of mine. I'm not that good in it. Not as good as MJ at all. A break of 42... I just can dream of that. :) I really like to play the game A LOT. And it's fun to watch it on tv aswell. Those commentators are awesome. John Virgo... Gotta love his comments imo.

Psynce, it`s not a joke.

I wonder Jimmy has a sponsorship deal with a sauce manufacturer and not with Jack Daniels. Jimmy Daniels would be a name which suits him more.

do you ever work?

#361275Post 12 of 20

Damn, should take up playing it again, wasn't very good at it, but liked it very much. Gives you a bit of calm in the brain, too!

I was better at pool, had a period in which I could clean the table in 2 or 3 turns...

#361297Post 13 of 20

Fuck, Jimmy White played horrible. Only the last frame was very good with a +100 break by the Whirlwind. He's 4-2 behind now, let's hope he still wins this match.

@Hos: 1st of March I have to go back to work again.

Psynce, that`ll be Jimmy Brown then yes?

#361305Post 15 of 20

These days, I sometimes clean 5 balls behind each other in pool, as long as I don't drink too much. Otherwise, cueing start getting messy

I've noticed that Jimmy White always produces his best in the evening sessions, in the afternoon he is awful sometimes.
