SoundCloud [ms] app

I didn't realize this but SoundCloud has an app platform similar to Facebook. I'm trying to think of different ways that writing a [ms] SoundCloud app would benefit us. Anybody have any ideas?

One idea is an app that links your [ms] profile and SoundCloud profiles together, constantly keeping them in sync--if you subscribe to an artist in DJDB, it automatically follows the artist on SoundCloud for you. Or vice versa, where if you follow an artist on SoundCloud, it automatically subscribes you to them in the [ms] DJDB.

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

That would be the best feature for an MS Soundcloud app, no doubt!

How about a soundcloud Dropbox linked to each profile? And is there any way that under the "share" option for each track/mix, you could put a sort of "share to MS" option that would immediately create a thread over here?

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

What's the latest with this. I know I am interested in what my friends on MS are following on soundcloud and vice versa.

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

I'm taking a very similar approach as I did with my Facebook events sync:

http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb.php?item=events&id=oslo

I'm already able to query SoundCloud for a DJ's tracks. I need to continue storing the data locally and integrating it with DJDB data. My end goal (within 1 month) will be [ms] alerting us in our subscriptions of all new SoundCloud uploads for the artists that we're subscribed to :)

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

What does this API offer in terms of functionality exactly? I haven't heard of this before but interesting this is available.

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

It's primarily for getting their data, but they also have limited data change APIs. When I combine it with my [ms] scripts I can start to keep things synced together and have a seemless, automatic flow of data between sites. Facebook, Twtter, SoundCloud, and MySpace all have an API that lets you take their data and use it for your own purposes :)

Sounds complicated, but that is going to be great :)

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

Just out of curiosity I noticed there is a soundcloud option for posting soundcloud links in some parts of this forum, but not others (so we have to type [soundcloud link [/soundcloud out, is that on purpose?

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

I'm almost done with the integration to SoundCloud :)

http://www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb2.php?item=subscriptions

It's mostly working here, but I still have a few changes to make. MercuryServer now knows about all updates for all DJDB artists on SoundCloud! :o:

As much as i agree and admire what this will do but in theory, will it not cause the P&R section to suffer if people are getting the sets directly from soundcloud. It is what you do i suppose when someone posts a link from soundcloud but it may take some importance away from P&R. Might not be a big deal and as i said, it is a great idea but for me...P&R has been the biggest and best part of [ms].

Can you give me an example please? I can't imagine it to be this way. The bb tags are not forum permissions based and I just tried a good dozen forums out with regular user login rights. In all of them, the Soundcloud tag was visible either in the post new thread and reply to thread forms like it should be.

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

The button is there when you Go Advanced, maybe Piklxz could add it to the quick reply template too.

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

i have not read this thread entirely, but i noticed when i post mine, or anyone else's mixes on facebook it doesnt have the player like youtube's direct - anymore. is this a problem with my java, php etc. restrictions(?) ...or is prevalent, platform-wise, due to their own choice is my question. what it does now, is revert to the sondcloud page of the mix - instead of playing strait on fb feed. i'll look into it. youtube's virulent vid woudl be a good standard to adhere to

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

[ms] now syncs with SoundCloud for all artists that exist in our DJ Database. I've been toying with this for a while but I think it's at a point where I can release it for general use. Just jump over to your homepage and check out the SoundCloud section below your Subscriptions.

I have also implemented RSS subscriptions for your artists' SoundCloud updates, which is a feature that even SoundCloud doesn't provide :o: Just grab your link from the RSS icon in the SoundCloud Updates title bar.

Re: SoundCloud [ms] app

^^^ That's really, really nice :)

Always wondered why SoundCloud hadn't implemented RSS, but guess that's moot now. Just have to add anyone I want to subscribe to to the DJDB first
