So I just got home...Sasha was pretty sober and together to build a beautiful 2.5 hr buildup only to let it all go and release the decks to Lavelle who ruined the night, IMO.... We weren't there to see some average dj play out 10 minute vinyl we've all heard 8 months ago and I couldn't believe how long he played and had to take off... I only hope sasha eases into it a bit harder, a bit earlier and without any bullshit dj's sharing the bill in march. But to all you who haven't heard him recently, he sounded amazing!! Totally together and mathmatic. Great, long, builds...to be honest...it reminded me of Digweeds progressive sets from a couple of years ago. really strong, great builds, hard beats and a deeeep bass that drops in to keep the party going all night. Great job Sasha! Next time, don't let anyone take over.

thats a silly match up. i hope in miami UNKLE's performance comes before S&D take over. i like unkle, but i cant imagine them coming on after sasha & digs' journey.

#354906Post 3 of 54

And anybody heard him with Burrige? I wonder how that one went...

#354909Post 4 of 54

Re: Sasha last night...

I wasn't able to make the Burridge/Sasha event... But I'm sure Burridge tore it up like no other mother. I've seen Lee play twice before, one on the boat party out in LA and the night before at Spundae. He had some clean funky mixes. I can only imagine what he played last Saturday at Avalon with those huge speakers... I'm glad Sasha opened for Lee though, good to see the better dj to go last

S&D then UNKLE, totally WRONG.

I wouldn't even bother walking through the door if that haapend.

Yes. And Digweed was doing it without Ableton.

^ so what? Does it mean he's better a dj? It's the music that finally matters - not the media...

Re: Sasha last night...

Last night was my first trip to new york...the place was packed....sasha had the crowd going nuts...then lavelle came on...and from mostly everyone else comments...he did stink.....he couldn't mix two records together if he tried....we were almost going to leave, because at this point i would have raher watched paint dry then have to listen to that anymore...then sasha come on...which he should not have come off to begin with...he was on last night...he didn't look like his typical sauced out sasha...and you can tell in his set....that was def one of the best set i have heard from sasha in a very long time....it was a harder sasha then i have heard before, but also very melodic...IMO..overall a very enjoyable night....met a lot of cool people....

cheers new york for a great night

There is reality vs. the world you live in buddy.

Diggerz Sasha Howells

You take that listing and throw it in any order and you still have the top 3 djs' no matter how hard you try.

(P.S. Your sarcasm was funny!)

#354967Post 14 of 54

i was chating with some fellow djs about the ableton software... i guess it beat matches for you, so basically all you do is program and cue up...that doesn't sound so hard to me..... :|

#354970Post 15 of 54
^ so what? Does it mean he's better a dj? It's the music that finally matters - not the media...
I was stateing a fact you pretentious dick. Did I say anything about either one being better?

It's only a matter of time before Sasha mixes a set without even physically being there. Like on a plane or some shit.

#354973Post 16 of 54

That would be hot, dj'ing from a plane and then beaming it to the club.

i see what both of you are saying..but it takes away an element of djing IMO

If you only use 10% of the opportunites Ableton gives to you...maybe. You can add samples and loops and basically remix a track live and combine it with a shitload of elements. If DJ's know how to use Ableton it?s a journey they can send you on and most people don't even know what the DJ is doing all the time for your aural pleasure and that they they don't listen to the original tracks. If a DJ knows what to do when he has complete control over a track he can destroy the floor.

#354994Post 19 of 54

IMO, Ableton is the deal...

I use it as a sequencer rewired through Reason. Seems like most people that rip on it have never used it.

It's just a matter of time when this platform replaces vinyl...

Keyword = Progressive
And anybody heard him with Burrige? I wonder how that one went...
FCUKING amazing!!! Both are masters at their craft... that night was surely one of the best as far those two go. I reallly enjoyed it.

i think sasha by now has proved that he can beat match. plus i think it's the programing that makes a good night not so much the mixing.

#355014Post 22 of 54

Re: Sasha last night...

The program does not do anything automatically...

While I agree that it does take away a major element of being a DJ, Sasha has definately proven himself as a DJ and one of the best mixers around. So you can't really say shit about him. What he does on Albeton at the moment, he's done before with records. I just can't wait to see what he starts doing once he's knows Albeton inside-out.

great night, Lee played awesome that night. sasha just play a few songs, i guess that was lee?s night , but next day at acapulco i hear the back 2 back was very impressive. is great to see this guys together.

#355206Post 25 of 54

i'm definitely looking forward to seeing what sasha's got to offer with his ableton setup. in a couple weeks he's playing his first set in SF with it. :D

i dont think someone Sasha has a hard time beatmatching two tracks anyways, it probably takes him 4 seconds to do that part of it .... The programming is what makes him that much better then most dj's

I tried to get into this place at 12:30am and holy shit, the line was almost backed up to 10th ave. I dont understand, it was not like that In Oct and Dec.....whats happened since then?

#355302Post 27 of 54

Re: Sasha last night...

IMO JL sucked ass!!! he didnt mix any 2 records he played and on top of that he played must records almost 10 minutes. He also played In A State twice!!!! WTF? I was pissed when they took done Sashas computer and that sorry bitch James lavelle started playing his cheese ball shit. overall i was disapointed with the nite but not because of sasha

Re: Sasha last night...

we got to the club around 11:50 didn't get in till 1:40 heard sasha tearin it up for little over an hour. he was remixing editing jumping around and then at 3 they take down his screen and JL comes on, talk about killing the vibe. It was crap.....sasha had to think to himself what is this guy doing. No organization between tracks just dropping them in. i've been listening to prog house since 98 and i have never wanted to leave the club like i wanted to leave that night.

so we stayed hoping sasha would come back. sure enough at 5 they put the screen back up and sasha brought the house down. the best short set i have heard from him he played all the way till 7am the last track of his set was amazing some male vocal track have no idea what it was.

he dropped a couple tracks off the PR set

the music- bleed from within forgot the rest

it was a shitty night but worth the wait SHIT HAPPENS i'll never go back to crobar on an 18 and up ever again

here's some pics http://community.webshots.com/user/andymcm113

also have 5 mins of video but need some help on uploading them HELP
man i cant fucking stand tiesto, everybody loves f ing tiesto.
lol yeah i can't stand tiesto either. but sasha was fun. i got there late, so no clue what happened with the line and the crammedness. by 4 it seemed to have cleared up and plenty of room for everyone it seemed. pics up on ra. supposedly also a special on sasha for the sasha fans out there.

you guys that were there did you read the reviews on the gu board somebody said they were tag team it for a while did anyone see that

#355426Post 34 of 54

Ableton just makes It easier to create new music, since the beat matching is no problem, than a dj can focus on remixing the tune, adding effects, and trying to create a new and better song.

Re: Sasha last night...

It was one of the better Sasha sets I've heard in while, but James LaValle came on for about two hours and totally killed everything...what a trainwreck that was. It was very weird! Sasha came back on for the last hour and half or so...and it was old school Sasha. He ended with a new mix of the Killers Mr. Brightside...great record! The he came back on for his encore with a track from a recent Digweed. I tried to find it on my i-pod, but no luck yet. It has a guys vocal in it.

It was 18+...NEVER AGAIN! Too fucking crowded. We waited an hour to get in, and there was still a line wrapped around the block!

it is great to hear this about sasha, lately everyone was complaining about if he were using softwares or not, who cares, if hes playing like this, i wouldnt give a shit, like somebody said, its proof that hes a great mixer, and if he gets a tool that help him (ableton, reason, etc), this is even better i think.

#355709Post 40 of 54

Sounds like Lavelle's on for the "must miss" list ... pity.
