Guys, any preview for this online?

#1492228Post 124 of 174

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

iTunes' crappy 30-seconds preview.

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

No preview needed. It's Nick Warren, if you like upfront progressive house, you'll like it.

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

The first 3 tracks on this are stellar. Defintion of progressive. Can't wait to listen to the rest of this!

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

Warren delivers. Top mix, fine addition to the Balance family. Actually surprised at some of the sounds on this mix, CD 1 seems to have a techier edge in the middle but on the whole, uniquely Warren.

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

Ok , listened properly now, Cd1 for me is still a bit of a disappointment. Starts brilliantly and then wanders. Some great tracks, a couple I hate  Still bitter about the remix of Buenos Aires. ! If I had just heard that remix without ever hearing the original I probably would have loved it . But the original had this intangible quality that the city had to me, and it is totally gone from the remix :( Took the Air out of Buenos Aires :) Cd1 for me lacked cohesion.

Cd2 Love it !!! :D

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

Listened to the first disc. Absolutley love the beginning, agree with the sentiment that it kinda wanders in the middle, but really caps it with the last 3 tracks. The good far outways the bad imo. I agree that Nick should have syuck with the origimal Buenos Aires on this. I'm very much looking forward to disc 2 after hearing the Victoria R track on last weeks transitions. So far I give a 8.5

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

Yes the good definitely outnumbers the bad :D

And I love that Victoria R track !!:D

Agree. The Original is the best version till now. Buenos Aires is Simply Buenos Aires. :D

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

I did think the change in CD1 after track 3 felt a bit random, I assumed Warren wanted to try something different/techier more inline with the recent Balance contributions. But on the whole, great track selection, even the middle of CD1. I struggle to remember another comp in the past 6 months that stood out like that—but my memory is fucked!

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

Cd2 is phenomenal. What makes this such a great addition is how well he managed to keep such great tracks under wraps until this was released. Perfect example being Vicotria R's track. This was being played by Hernan in Dec. Cd2 get a 9.5 from me, giving the overall mix a 9. EDM mixes this good are a rarity imo. Now I'm looking forward to Guy J's 1000 words(love EVERY track, what a producer), and Mr. Saiz. 2011 is shaping up nicely. p.s. not to be spoiled but PLEASE tell me hernan is doing another b-day mix(fingers-crossed)

#1492748Post 143 of 174

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

Oh, b-day is approaching, can I do a mix?

Maccheroni's mail hasn't delivered the Balance cd yet, now I could have it the next day from Amazon.
^^^ Well what did you think ??
I'll reserve my comments on disc 2 for a later time as I don't have a full opinion on it yet (only 1 listen)

I love the first 3 tracks to disc 1. For me it's a nice lush techy introduction and they work together perfectly. Track 4 is a good track in its own right, but just seems out of place that early on in the mix. It abruptly shifts to a bass heavy track and the momentum was killed for me.

The rest of the mix is okay but doesn't grab my attention until deep house track 7 "Jamie Anderson And Owain K - Without Sound". This track, "Nomad in the Dark - Drones (Send me)" were stand outs for me. Albeit, for totally different reasons.

Overall it's a decent mix with a decent track selection with a couple of programming hiccups. It's not going to be a classic but it's worth hearing Warren try something different.

Disc 2 sounds more promising from my initial listen.

Wasn't there a launch party in Miami ??

Btw forgot to say, good review !!

#1494480Post 152 of 174

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

I really like CD1. I think the mix between tracks 4 and 5 is superb, proper little bassline coming in there, really memorable. Think the last 2 tracks on the disc are a bit average though.

Only heard CD2 once and I wasn't amazed on first listen, although the Aragorn track is top notch. I do feel that the last two tracks on CD2 are too 'mimimal' to end a CD with if you get my meaning? I'm sure I'll enjoy CD2 after a few more listens.

Thanks ;)

You're right, launch party was in Miami. I guess I mean whenever he has a gig (ie. promotes the album) in Melbourne. Seeing Warren in a more intimate setting is way too tempting (which I presume will be the case)

Re: Balance 018: NICK WARREN !!!

Disc 2 is pretty good. Another listen tonight reaffirms that. The first half is well constructed and flows very nicely... and from track 6 " Victoria R - Cosmos" (great track) is when it really starts for me. A nice journey overall.

I'll go with 6/10 for disc 1 and 7.5/10 for disc 2. Overall 7/10.

And Victoria R is apparently 22 and cute as well. Great :D
