I am trying to gage a reaction from people outside of our normal Circles with regards to an event we are putting on. We have managed to gain access to the 5th biggest cathedral in the world and the biggest in the Uk. We will be putting on the first ever electronic music event on the 2nd April in Liverpool

We have Danny Howells and Hernan Cattaneo playing. We are expecting a media back lack of sorts but we have arranged dj workshops for the day time so underprivalleged kids can be introduced to music. So far we have backing from Function1, SAE and many more people giving up there time to help. We also have Bench giving out clothing to the kids who attend the work shops.

I would be grateful for your views, good or bad as long as there genuine.

I have attached a link for the cathedral so you can see it for yourselves

Because the poll title is "do you have a problem with it" not "do you like it" ;)

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

Church venues adds a unique element to a rave imho. I've raved in some before such as halo and the Q club but never a full on cathedral. Also, having the DJ box positioned in front of the organ pipes creates a spectacular sight. I'd be well up for attending.

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

the reverb of the place will be awfully large, be careful with that in the sound design of the system

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

Looks awesome, but the acoustics arent that great there i believe. Plus it will fall apart with all that bass ^_^
Looks awesome, but the acoustics arent that great there i believe. Plus it will fall apart with all that bass ^_^
Its a common misconception that the accoustics arnt great in this venue. The creator of this building actually designed it in a way to maximise sound quality. The Dean was keen for us to point this out.

But just to be sure we have asked the guys who actually designed and created Function One sound Systems to come up and engineer the event on the evenenig. We are going all out on the production of this event, the magnificent 50ft glass window will be a monumental spectacle.

I get goose bumps just walking into the building thinking about what were doing.

We will off course make sure that the building is looked after. But create something that we hope will go down as ground breaking.

We will be astounded if this event doesnt sell out. Its well on its way to do doing so.

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

Wow- one of my favourite buildings. They say architecture is frozen music, well it won't be that night!

I think it will be an amazing night- total support from me.

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

for me, and this is only personal, it only depends if deadmau5 will be there, and if by any chance he is, if he would wear his old raving days pikachu pants

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

oh man, that's so awesome. I don't see any problem with it--some kids may seal their fates in it, but that's their own problem

One concern I'd have with logistics would be sound dampening. It's going to be fun to figure out how to make the music sound good on the dance floor without echoing all over the place

Much apreciated thank you.

The fun has already began planning the lighting and LED screen set up.

The Dream zone the church insisted on (a chill out zone) is going to blow people away were its situated. The Cathedral was built so that when you walked in, you had your own personal moment with God. I think therely be a few people reflecting :)
i can't imagine how totally awesome the event would be in the cathedral ... too bad i'm at the other end of the world otherwise i'd definitely be there
This sums up the way I would feel about it. It's brilliant, and as someone on Hernan's forum said, What a dance floor !! I think it's a wonderful way to use a wonderful building. Best of luck with it all !!

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

The really sad thing is, we had sasha penciled in and a date agreed and for me that would of been the pinnacle. But when it cane to it we just couldn't tie him down. I hate the politics I'n music but Its part of the game.

A shame but I am very grateful that hernan and Danny agreed to play. Iv been chasing hernan for a long time so I really am happy. Roll on 2nd

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

Mate big thumbs up for this one. I've seen old castles and forts being used as a great venue but a cathedral would be absolutely brilliant. Well done to you and hope it’s a fantastic night.

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

dude this is awesome!

See: Limelight in NYC for old-school rave/events in a cathedral...

Next best for a brief time was an old large bank building in Hartford, CT near me that was also cathedral-sized in the main room...easily something like 70' or so high ceilings...closed 3 years ago because it was just too large in a smaller city. But, impressive in size and sound when setup/done right! Could also fit several hundred plus in there without issue.

Good luck with this...as long as the sound setup works, it will go off nicely.

Re: Raving in a Cathedral

Was a really great night - well done to Tommo and his Liverpool crew for putting this baby on.

Hernan & Danny on top form - speaking to HC he was truly delighted at playing and very humbled (being catholic and very respectful to the surroundings). His music reflected this - more of a Parallel 'Day' vibe, melodic but dark, chuggy, housy & proggy rather than banging. Two hours of perfection.

The after-party was in far less celubrious surroundings - but Hernan & Danny were having such a good time and Hernan stayed on until 5 am. which he didn't have to do - so much great music was played and this goes down as one of the best nights ever ;)

Come back soon !
