^^ Good Advice.

Ska, Pickles you cants. Everyone needs to quit in their own way.

I was talking about this over the w/e. I'm near the stage where i don;t like smoking anymore and i have the will to stop. I'm going to get some weed to get me over the first week, then take it a day at a time.
If you can quit for a day, you can do a week, you do a week you can do month.

Re: Let this time be remembered..
1 and a half hours after stopping... this is the longest I`ve gone without a smoke in a long time.

Ive chosen the finger nail that im gonna kick the fuck out of over the next few days so hopefully that`ll help a bit.

My cat`s pissing me off already, whining like fuck for something to eat "I fed you 2 hours ago you fat fuck!"

Hos keeps sending me dull messages on MSN, thats enough for any one want to start smoking mate, have a word will ya.

Fuck off and die all of you! :|
haha, typical quitter symptoms. Everything annoys you.
But you have to want to quit!.
That's pretty much it right there. When I quit I was full on ready, I hated doing it, so there was no reason not to. If you just say to yourself "I think I'm going to quit smoking today" you are doomed for failure. It's something you have to build up to.

Either way, hang tough dude. It will be worth whatever torture you're enduring now. Trust me...I've been there. :)

Yeh thanks for the words mayan, i do want to quit but suprisingly not for health reasons. I want to save some money so i can go to WMC 2006, every penny i spend on ciggs now i`ll put towards my trip over there next year.

Apart from your little hiccup it`s good to see you are still a none smoker.

MS: If you haven't already slipped back in to your old ways, use some advice a friendly North Carolina cop gave me while he held my dog and his partner rifled through my parents' rental car (this was after stopping and searching me for walking down the street in a bad part of town, then escorting me back to my car) :

"The next time you think about using, just take a hammer to one of your fingers. The pain will distract you from your cravings, and your hand can heal." This advice works better for you, since indeed, the damage smoking does to your lungs probably won't heal. I won't go in to ideas like freedom of choice, or the minimal damage smoking and/or drug use does to a normal, intelligent person's lungs or brain compared to physical injuries down the road (i.e. arthritis at 35 instead of lung cancer at 80). I don't think they teach that kind of stuff in the academy, but maybe that episode of cops where their idea of reducing "street-level dealers" was to tackle college kids and middle-aged black women after an undercover sold them crack was teaching us a lesson that takes some serious t'inkin' to learn.

-- P.S. I think WMC is the best reason to quit... hope you can stick with it 8)

MJ start working out. It works wonders to help you quit smoking. I still smoke, by choice, but I've cut back to only 2 a day (one on the way to work and one leaving). When I started going to the gym I just stopped feeling like I wanted a smoke. Don't know if others have experianced this but its made a big difference for me.

BTW good luck :)

Re: Let this time be remembered..

^^ Ive done exactly that sir, my mum has a little gym in the small building round the back of her house. I now go do a one hour workout most night`s on the way home from work. I feel great for it.
what's your problem dude...cigarettes are so much worse for you than weed!
I don't smoke cigarettes, and never have smoked cigarettes.
I still think about smoking...stilll dream that I am smoking...in my mind, I will always be a smoker. But you have to want to quit! It's the only way. If you keep telling yourself...oh my god...I haven't smoked in X number of hours/days...that's stoopid. I think the mentality you need to have is "I'm glad I quit...what was I thinking".
That's how I felt/feel about pot. my 2 years don't compare to your 14 years of cigarettes, but it's still the same principle... all my buddies kept trying to get me to smoke with 'em but I had to keep telling them (and myself) that I don't smoke any more.

It's definitely a mindfuck, but you just have to stick to it. If you want to quit, you'll quit.

#353497Post 49 of 70

^^ i read your previous post as thouh youd been/are a smoker just like mayan. If you arent then you realy have no idea how difficult it is to quit man, and dont even begin to think you do. Mayan said its the hardest thing he`s evey had to do and i truely beleive him.

#353499Post 50 of 70

And what will happen after WMC? You have to get a more internalized motivation than that... :| I can see you at WMC thinking - I've done it so I deserve one cig. And that will be the beginning of the big fall. Make yourself really hate it and that will be the best way. Go out running, work out or whatever - it certainly helps. And get some friends that don't smoke! You'll never want to smoke in their company as much as you would when you're with smokers. Good luck anyway. :D

you're having a laugh, right? weed isn't addictive, only if you were skinning up with tobacco you'd get addicted to the nicotine. if were skinning up pure there's no addiction whatsoever. so if you have never smoked a ciggie you have no idea.

#353542Post 52 of 70

^exactly. no physical addiction with de hempage. not even in the same league as nicotine...which is more addictive than heroin.

#353546Post 53 of 70

^ Very true, much harder to quit especially as every shop sells cigs.

Weed is only addtictive in you mind.

#353612Post 54 of 70
Weed is only addtictive in you mind.
yes, but isn't it what we're talking about?... By the way, alcohol is also very addicitve and there's never so much fuss about is about drugs...

#353640Post 55 of 70

I've smoked cigarettes, but not enough to get "addicted." I'll just shut up, because my opinion doesn't matter since I obviously have no idea what an addiction is like.

#353642Post 56 of 70

no way pickles, you're addicted to wanking. that counts.

No one has said your opinion doesn`t matter, what they have said is you have no idea how it is to quit smoking beacuse you have never been a real smoker. The only people who know how hard it is are people that have smoked properly.. by that i mean at least maybe 20 a day and for a few years.

Honestly pickles it`s not fucking easy man.

#353674Post 59 of 70

good for you MJ.. i have a few friends that have quit cold turkey. one girl used to smoke over a pack a day.. quit last new years, and never looked back.. 13 months and going strong. i cant even imagine how difficult it is.. best of luck. i imagine one of the hardest things will be going out to a pub or a club.. stay strong mate!

#353710Post 60 of 70

man after reading this entire thread I'm going for a cigarette..see you later guys...hehe

by the way, I've tried quitting a minimum of 3 times, once even made it to 6 months, but after all the weight I put on it depressed me (oh and I was working out regularly) and I started again. I will say though that I will be quitting this year...I've really had enough and those damn prices too.

I just don't get that part of it, I understand that cigarettes are bad for me and they may kill me, but why do I have to pay a fortune to the government for that...aren't they physically expensive enough? Bastards!

#353805Post 61 of 70

That working out will eventually take effect, you'll feel healthier, stronger, more confident. If for any reason you want to light a cigarette, just think about how you were: would you be willing to reduce all the effort (mentally and physically) to zero just for a 5 minute pleasure? Better go wanking off, feels better and is healthier

Stop being a slave to a very unhealthy habit: determine your own pleasures.

Hope these thoughts help, even if only a teeny tiny little bit...

#354792Post 62 of 70

good luck man!

I read that less then 10% of everybody that tries to quit makes it longer then a year... how is that for team spirit! keep it up!

#355238Post 69 of 70

i used to smoke 20 a day since i was 14 years old and i gave it up this year, just stopped, the first 2 weeks were like hell but it was worth it

#355431Post 70 of 70

Glad I never got hooked on that stuff. Or anything sles for that matter.

I know your lungs will thank you a little bit. Depending on how long you smoked for and how bad.
