Re: All hail Nick Warren !
I've always been a huge Pappa fan , but the last couple of times I have seen him, I felt there was something missing. His sets didn't have the ebb and flo I like just flat out all the time, and I've come to hate that little drum machine thing. Having said that I definitely go to all his gigs. :D Too much good history to risk missing out :D
i hear ya bout the drum pad, but at least he's a former drummer ;) and he aint as consistent as he used to be, but his sping promo 2010 was magical and there is an ibiza radio studio vid that chuck c posted on here a month or two ago that is unreal with him mixing!8)

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

Even if I don´t listen to much of his stuff currently, the man´s been at this shit for 20 years with consistent quality, not only as a DJ but also as part of WoW, and that should at least earn some form of respect. Also, I bet he doesn´t shit his pants at the prospect of having to play a DJ set longer than 2 hours or a live set that goes on for more than one hour, unlike a lot of flash in the pan one hit wonders out there currently.

You know, Hawtin bores me to fuckin´ tears nowadays and I´m not gonna start pissing all over what he has done for the scene, just because he isn´t doing something I care about currently. It´s amazing how much ignorance and disrespect goes on in this scene nowadays, mainly from kids who have never even bothered to learn and listen to some of house and techno´s history and think they´re awesome because they can play a 2 hour mix of the latest tracks on the Beatport top 10 and had a minor hit in Singapore, or what the fuck ever.

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

Fuckin legend! is right. I owe this guy everything. I can honestly say is that he is one of the nicest people in the industry if not the nicest. He's one of the few people doesn't have people sorting his tracks for them too. When you hear a Nick warren set, its truly a labour of love that he himself has put together, not 20 tracks that his secretary sent him. Hes done everything else the other big dogs have and has managed to not get a big head from it, unlike a lot of others. Always willing to help, always honest about music and always a gentleman. That's Nick.

Listening to this now. I remember the day I bought this. I went out that night and ended up back at mine with this really fit bird doing the cleanest coke I have ever done at 7am on a Sunday

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

OMG that Nick Warren set from Tel Aviv sounds exactly like Sasha's Guvernment, Toronto set from 2003.

No wonder it is good.

I was in Newland and the Banner Elk area for 4 days over the Presidents Day weekend... I think I mentioned it in Random Thoughts or TGIF or somewhere  Would have been fun to have gotten together. Iffy how far do you live from Newland / Linville Falls?

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

Nick Warren is THE man. I realised right after listening to his GU 03 Prague, which was given to me by a very good friend many years ago, that I was hooked to his sound, style which still continues to this very day. The amount of awesome tunage that he is able to find and play out over the many, many years is simply amazing.

He is fearless in the club and will play out tracks that may seem a little odd or even out of place during live gigs, but always seems to get away with it. And as lovers of music, we are always going to be better off musically because of it. Making a dark club heave and clubbers losing their shit, is what he does best and I’m always left highly inspired, whenever he has finished tearing it up behind the decks. He always appears to be enjoying himself and is more than happy to have a yarn when he's done.

Personally, I have changed in many ways over the years and for better I believe. And I owe all to this music, culture and amazing people who I have met, conversed with, not only in Australia but in other countries that I have had the blessings, opportunity to visit with over the years.

And it’s all thanks to Mr Warren. :p

I live in downtown Asheville, which is about an hour from Linville Falls. Could have easily made it up to see you. Rob (from in Plain Sight)'s family lives in Banner Elk and he goes up there quite often. Next time you're here call me and I'll show you Asheville.

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

I can hardly wait to hear his new mix :) Keep the reviews coming, it's great to hear all the different takes on it... so far the reviews have been super positive.

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

His new Balance is absolutely shit. BSPF from about 6 years ago... As for the mastering of it, whoever did it must be fucking stone deaf...

And this ???

Now the scale has gone from super positive to decent

#1493721Post 59 of 73

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

Don't believe everything you read. If mastering would be fucked up, at least 1 out of 10 reviews would mention it. None did. As for BSPF, an acronym which was relevant 10 years ago, whoever complains about Nick sets just doesn't know him. Warren is very consistent when it comes to what he plays or how his compilations sound.

#1493747Post 60 of 73

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

Re: The mastering. It really is shocking. Completely over compressed, then overly 'excited' on the mid and highs and then maxed for loudness.. Virtually every drum on it is distorted as a consequence.

Listen to it through headphones to get a feel for how bad it is, your ears will be ringing afterwards...

#1493795Post 61 of 73

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

I listened with high quality headphones, I had a hearing test 2 months ago and passed with flying colours, so I'm calling garbage. The Cds are just fine. You are listening to CDs you bought aren't you ??

I think CD 2 of Balance and the Transitions mix would've made a nice comp.

Re: All hail Nick Warren !

Saw Warren for the first time on Friday. What a fucking legend this guy is, unbelievable. The quality of music he played is ridiculous, the tracks had so much energy, and it just kept going for almost 6hrs. Hearing Cafe del Mariachi at 9:30am felt great.

All in all, Nick is the man.
