The soundcloud tags freeze safari 8 times out of 10. Anyone know how to fix this? All you fuckers with soundcloud links in your sigs are right pissing me off.

Re: MS and safari

Err, I only use Safari and don't have any problems with the soundcloud links . Kamal's avatar on the other hand always gives me the spinning beach ball

Re: MS and safari

What happens if you visit a soundcloud page directly?

#1460548Post 7 of 35

Re: MS and safari

No problems with their site. It just craps up when it's loading the previews on MS.

^^^this^^^

I get the beachball of (near) death when a 'robbing souls with pictures' page is loaded with tons of animated gifs.

Re: MS and safari

I've noticed a slight stalling when scrolling down pages that contain soundcloud signatures but not to the point of it being a big problem. And I'm on Firefox. :p

But I would welcome a way to hide soundcloud signatures, I don't like anything impeding my scroll :p

Re: MS and safari

yeah, turning off sigs seems to be the best way to do it.

Re: MS and safari

Does Safari have a profiles type functionality? Is it possible for you to start Safari with a fresh profile or in Safe Mode?

Some Googling says that you can hold the Shift key before you start up Safari to start it up in Safe Mode. Try this and tell me if it hangs while in Safe Mode

#1460598Post 12 of 35

Re: MS and safari

it's been affecting me when i'm on chrome and firefox, too. not with them in the signatures, but with multiple soundcloud pages open. can be a real pain in the ass.

#1460712Post 14 of 35

Re: MS and safari

Safe Mode starts up a program with only the core components, bypassing any plugins/extensions/etc that may cause a browser to fail. I'm curious if they may have some type of extension that's causing Safari to hang, so this should tell us if it's a core config issue or due to some third party plugin/etc

Re: MS and safari

Do people actually like Safari? I've never seen the appeal. Even as a Mac user would you not change to Chrome or something?

because I don't want google crawling my shit!

Firefox is loaded with SEO plugins that makes anything other than research really obnoxious.

Chrome logs your key strokes and sends it back to Google. Although, running in Incognito may override this.

At the end of the day who really cares... it's all "anonymized" and unless you're a bomb maker you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

If you disconnect from the Internet and then it won't be able to get back to Google?

I haven't tried it yet. Turning off sigs solved the problem. I'll try to remember to turn them back on and try it today.

When you're running ads with G, using analytics on a bunch of interlinking sites and stuff like that, the last thing you need is for google to figure out what's going on ;) I'm too worried about the footprint. Google loves to fuck people over in the name of "good user experiences"

Fair enough :) Although, I have found the alternative for you.

i'd imagine macintosh to be the nosy one - above all - nowadays. imho: google is batshit nuts, too: i frequenting drop off at their soc hq regularly in irvine and bear witness.

but for real though... microsoft. those wackos takes the top crown. i won't even begin (send PM). kick it with bill gates on lake WA for a day, if you may, and you'll realise that there's a reason why they slapped a mono* on their ass. windows is ugly. monopolies assimilate pervasive outcomes long before the primary effects unfold.

UPDATE 2010-06-30: At the time of writing, the Mac version of Iron is not up-to-date and is probably insecure. I have stopped using it for now. Hopefully it can be kept up-to-date and patched to a schedule close to the normal Chromium releases in the future.

sounds great!

I don't really care if apple steals my shit since I don't depend on them for my $$$s. Fucking chrome was triggering Little Snitch when it wasn't even running though. Fuck that shit.

Re: MS and safari

That's interesting, Little Snitch was stuffing up a third party Ebay lister I use. For other users not me fortunately. They had to put up special instructions to get rid of it !!
