Hi guys/gals

I am in the market for a new pair of headphones at the moment. My Sony MDR-V700's are near the end of their life (about 4 years ago the right side casing broke so the right headphone does not lie flat on my ear as it should, it hangs away from the ear).

I'm looking to pay about £50 maximum for a new pair - I only use tem to listen to my iPod and my laptop at home - no longer need them for dj'ing.

Any ideas on a decent pair?

Re: Headphones recommendations?

When I was looking I googled best headphones and these came up

http://www.gradolabs.com/frameset_main.htm

They are a neckband type . I love them !! Faults they leak noise. I entertain my fellow travellers on public transport :)

Re: Headphones recommendations?

Your budget is kind of tight for decent headphones. Are you looking for earbuds only or over the head cans okay as well?

If you're going earbuds, I'd suggest Sennheiser are a pretty decent brand for your buck.

Re: Headphones recommendations?

If you're after something cheap, anything from Sennheiser should do the trick.

Re: Headphones recommendations?

i agree with Sennheiser being a quality brand. I have Denon D2000's but your looking at more like 200 quid

Re: Headphones recommendations?

I bought these secondhand to use at work, they're surprisingly good: Expansive soundstage (usuall the case with these 'open' cans), and decent bass. I thought they're a bargain for the sound quality and comfort.

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-AD300-Full-size-Open-air-Headphones/dp/B000CMTV1U

They're huge, so no good for commuting, but GREAT for listening to music the whole day. They complely engulf your ears, the pads are velour or something, soft, and the two pads on top rest on your head and support the headphones.

(Just saw them for 98 AUD which is close to your budget)

Re: Headphones recommendations?

sennheiser... I think HD-202 are cheap and sound decent... you can go with something more expensive than these ones, too

Oh, I agree but the cost of those are a bit over Greg's £50 budget.

Check these out...

I have some iGrados - they are very uncomfortable, and make you look rather daft. You also can't lean your head back lying or sitting on high back chairs. You'll need to take extra care with these headphones as the cord is delicate and the iGrado logo has a tendency to fall off. Decent sound quality though.

I have these, they are a good value for the price - $25 - $30... they were $50 a few months ago, but the price has come down.

Re: Headphones recommendations?

I've heard good things about iGrado, but never really had the courage to try them out as a brand.

Myself, I'm still rocking the Technics DH1200's. I've got to find some new earbuds for use in the gym.

My wife gave me a pair of Studio Beats for an xmas and birthday present, and I have to admit, for home listening, they're really, really good.

Re: Headphones recommendations?

Shit, you not, best sound I have ever heard came from Target for $12.99

Frequency Response : 6-23,000Hz (this buds pack some serious bass. 12 Hz was the lowest I could find anywhere else)

Re: Headphones recommendations?

Sennheiser hd218 were about £40 when they hit the market but can be bought for less now online. I found they didn't really "hug" my head though and if you were moving around a bit they may slip ?? Guess it depends on the shape of your head too. Sound is good though.

For £50 there's the 238 which i'd recommend (details here)

Re: Headphones recommendations?

Not always :) I gave up on the sennheisers because of the cords mainly . Because I walk a lot I like neckband headphones. The sennheisers PMX60's I had the cords were really fragile and the fact that they cord came from one side only meant that everytime you took them on or off put pressure on the cord inside the neckband, and they can't be fixed. All their cheaper ones have those awful cords, even on big headphones. The Igrado still looks fragile in the cording but I think they can be fixed if the cords go. And I have to say the sound is heaps better than the sennheisers were . Another thing is there are an awful lot of fake sennheisers around, be very careful of where you buy them from.

Re the original post I would suggest the next step up, as someone has already suggested, in the Grado range would be perfect http://www.amazon.com/Grado-Prestige-SR-60i-Padded-Headphones/dp/tech-data/B0006DPMU4 , nice solid cords .:) Google some reviews, they really score!! :D I like this one because i know exactly how they felt!! http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/412814/grado-sr60i-can-t-stop-grinning

Do they come with earclips? The problem with most earbuds when at the gym is them falling out (especially while running).

^Totally right...

... the only headphones that are earbuds that don't fall out are the ones that come with ipod/iphones. Of course those aren't very good headphones.

I have the Sennheiser HD-25 II or whatever their called...the good studio/dj ones...and on the basis of them I bought some of their in ear ones...i think they were mdx 500 or whatever something like that...the cords started losing contact after maybe 4-6 weeks...very poor quality...got sony ones and haven't looked back...
