so i bought a pair of Sony MDRV 700's late last year, liked them, never had a problem with em, until the left side cracks on me after a gig last month :(

i have it in place with a bunch of tape, and the sound is not affected, but they are uncomfortable to wear now and unsightly to say the least...def not trying to bring these to any future gigs lol

so what headphones can you guys recommend for under $200 American or so???

a few people have told me to go with the Beats by Dr. Dre, but i'm skeptical about them and don't wanna look like some pretentious douche with those on...plus they're a bit more than $200...

Re: Headphones under $200

What about Pioneer HDJ-2000 or the top AKG Pro DJ model (well the AKG will sound in a more studio like quality and a flatter bass, but will surely provide better sound isolation)?

Re: Headphones under $200

HDJ-2000's are amazing! best headphones I've ever used/bought though the cheapest I've seen them is $254.00 US the next ones down, HDJ-1000 or the Allen & Heath Xone XD-53 Professional Stereo Monitor Headphones are also very nice, a bit heavy for my liking Beats, yeah, they may sound good, but you'd look like a tool wearing those, lol

Re: Headphones under $200

sony mdr 7506 or the 7509 bit more expensive but are very good an my favs

Re: Headphones under $200

I had the 7506's, only 90.00, someone stole them, I did like them a lot though, sound was impeccable the 7509's are a bit more, but still under $200 deffo good headphones, my only negative comment would be that the ear piece doesn't swivel for the way I dj, but for studio monitors I think you'd be hard pressed to find better

Re: Headphones under $200

I bought a pair of these. http://ultrasone.com/index.php/en/products/hfi-450.html for right at $100 at Guitar Center a few years ago, and have never looked at another pair of headphones since. They are amazing sounding. And I'd put them up against any other pair of headphones out there.

Re: Headphones under $200

what are they made out of? do you travel a lot for gigs?

#1446134Post 8 of 17

Re: Headphones under $200

Nope I don't travel a lot for gig's. If I did than you'd probably see me a lot more on here. They are almost strictly home use. But IMO, that is no excuse. I've got a number of friends who dj 4 times a week and their headphones still look brand new too. Because they make damn sure to keep them in cases to protect the investment of $200 or more. I've never been the kind of DJ who haphazardly abuses his gear. I know plenty of those guys, and they make me glad I don't. ;-)

I was asking, because it looks as though they are made of plastic, and even though I really liked my Sony headphones, packing and traveling with them they just don't hold up. The Pioneers I have are much more lightweight and sturdy

Re: Headphones under $200

they are pretty sturdy. I've dropped them a few times and no problems. Definitely not like those old sony's we all used to have that all broke right above the earpiece. What a waste of money they were.

Re: Headphones under $200

I just got some XD-53... $175 off amazon. I'm liking them a lot.

Re: Headphones under $200

I have the Allen & Heath cans and really like them. But... a buddy of mine just got the AIAIAI - TMA1, and I tried them out and now I want them. lol. I don't really need new ones, but will probably sell my Xones and replace them with the TMA1. They look totally badass too all murdered out in flat black. 8)

best I've ever owned

some of the others mentioned here look great and probably sound just as good, but if the ear piece doesn't swivel I can't use them
