So, should I waste more time on this or what? :) Would you guys use them? If so, what would be useful?

Pickle you're not wasting any time man, you're continuing to invest in the infrastructure of one of the best EDM based websites on the web!

If you want the random artist widget, click here:

:)

I'm still new to creating gadgets but from the sounds of things I'm probably going to have to change this URL in a few months so I can let you customize the widget. I'm going to spend my time learning the creation of the customizable widgets with the DJDB Subscriptions widget... once I get that one knocked out, I'll revisit this one and add more stuff like only showing your favorite artists or possibly recommending new artists to you based on your likes.

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

Thanks picklemonkey! I use the GYY widget now and I just added the random artist. I would definitely add the other when it is available. Thanks!

What GYY widget? Is it just an RSS feed? If you want to put the DJDB Subscriptions up, you can also do it as an iGoogle RSS feed now that I have added RSS functionality (last week). Grab your personalized RSS URL from the icon at the Artists Subscriptions section of your [ms] homepage.

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

What other iGoogle widgets would you guys want to see? Your Favorite Artists? Anything new that I haven't come up with yet?

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

How about latest Facebook/Twitter/MySpace updates from your favorite artists being displayed right on iGoogle and MercuryServer?

:)
Yes I use the RSS feed as my gadget. I've been using it for quite sometime now and works like a champ. I get just a little bit of information and then when I am at home I use RSSOwl on the home workstation.

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

Anybody else using this Random Artist iGoogle widget? what are your thoughts? is it something you can see yourself using longterm?

What other ideas should I implement? Not only just on the iGoogle front page, but on our front page?

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

Ok, I just made an update to this widget. This is the one update I was talking about that would change the URL and break the one you're using, so if you were using the old one you should delete it.

You can re-add the new one at the new URL: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=www.mercuryserver.com/forums/djdb-google-artist.xml

This URL won't change again, it prevents you from needing to do that caching trick, it will always be the most up-to-date version when I release new changes, and it will enable me to allow each of you to customize the gadget to your own account once I write the code for it.

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

Ok, I just added personalization to this Random Artist widget. It should refresh on Google within the next hour... it will now ask you for your username and whether you want to see a random artist or only your favorite artists.

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

I was wondering why mine wasn't working anymore....just updated the new url. Thanks Adam :)

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

Hey, thanks!! I've come up with a few new artists to check out compliments of this widget. Yes, I've based it totally off of appearance. Sometimes I am that shallow. :D

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

I just created an iGoogle widget that displays a random photo from one of your friends' albums on Facebook. You can also set it to only show photos from one of your Facebook friend lists a certain percentage of the time (100% of the time) in case you want to see some people more than others.

You can add it to your iGoogle homepage here: http://www.google.com/ig/directory?url=http://picklemonkey.net/facebook/random_photo.xml

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

^^^^ Neat idea Adam! I just added it to try it out.....distorts some of the pictures though (smooshes or stretches them)

#1511441Post 21 of 22

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

I haven't seen any distortion... What browser are you using? Are the distorted pics made larger or smaller?

Re: MercuryServer iGoogle Widgets

I use Google Chrome. It doesn't do it to all of them....its like it takes pictures in portrait and squishes them into the frame
