Same. I think they can be quite entertaining, but you will never catch me up there singing. I can't carry a tune for the life of me, and I have accepted that. I will save my off pitch singing for my cat while I am cleaning on the weekends, lol

Eons ago my coworkers got me up singing "Love shack" with them. A third of the way through, the karaoke mc leaned over to me and said "Don't worry, I turned your mike off". :lol: Never again!!!

There's a big difference between Americanized karaoke and karaoke from Japan and other Asian countries. American karaoke is about singing in front of the mass in a bar; the original is going to a karaoke place where they have private rooms where you can sing your guts out amongst your friends. If you're not the attention-getter type, the latter is for you. If you live in a place with a large Asian population (LA, NY, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, etc), then you can find Japanese karaoke places or even more cheaper Korean karaoke places, which is called "noraebang" (norae = song, bang = room). There will be plenty of American/western songs so no worries there.

We Are The World always does the trick when everyone's had plenty to drink and you're passing the mike around :)
