So I just had this thought. I think there is something chemically wrong with me. When I take a painkiller (recreationally) I feel happier. I'm more excited about things and generally happier. Like it's an anti-depressant but I'm not depressed. Is that normal? Do any of you ever have that or have thought that? Anyone from the medical field that can say if I'm just fucked up?

I think something is wrong with me
Re: I think something is wrong with me
so, you take drugs and you feel good afterwards?
what's the problem exactly?
you think people get addicted to vicodin because it makes them feel shitty?
Re: I think something is wrong with me
^ that is why they are called happy pills
Re: I think something is wrong with me
detox for a month and you'll be fine
Re: I think something is wrong with me
this is fucking hilarious. amen, tiddles.
Re: I think something is wrong with me
Lol @ this thread..
Nothing is wrong with you pal.. Avoid painkillers for fun tho imo.
Re: I think something is wrong with me
It's normal that you feel better. It's also a very unhealthy habit unfortunately. You have two options, find a healthy outlet that gives you a similar high, or see a psychiatrist about prescription meds. Which btw, can help in rough patches of life, we've all had rough patches.
Hope you work things out, I'm sure Micko will have more advice to offer.
Re: I think something is wrong with me
be careful with that stuff, dude... once in a while, fine, but every pain pill fiend i've ever met or known becomes an irresponsible dope.. my roommate used to take a bunch of vicodin and his personality tanked, it was like talking to a plate of quivering jello.. his points became vague as he rambled to himself and slurred because his mind and mouth weren't totally in sync..
there's nothing wrong with you.. drugs make people feel good.. the problems come into play with recreational use when people forget that they can feel good without them, and decide that the high is some sort of special link to a mystical truth and peace.. if you find yourself rationalizing why you need to have them, or faking injuries to get pills off people, then there's a problem...

Re: I think something is wrong with me
Very bizarre thread.
Taking recreational painkillers is not a good idea mate. I'd stop that immediately.
Re: I think something is wrong with me
Used oxycontin & vicodin hard for over a decade, took me couple years to feel "normal" without them. Be careful taking them for fun cuz when you can't function in life without them, the fun goes away pretty fast.

^ i as well; though my decade was more synergistic along with other substances -- this all due to huge injuries from sports and being apart of a huge party and rave scene.
very few people can do this: it is possible to break long, bad cycles- by redirecting and change ups with psychadelics and with other harder drugs (won't go in depth on how to here)..... but the very real risk with doing that is predicated critically on the individual's will power; for, if you lack constraint physically, emotionally or mentally, you are, and will find yourself in grave peril... and thense in rehab, nut houses, on the streets, or programs, or fellowships(which work exremely well and great bonds of friendship form in them). drugs are not for everyone, and are certain taboo... if lacking the inner fortitude.
^ that is why they are called happy pills
generally considered, yes, they are called that; but technically, that is incorrect. happy pills are benzodiazepines,,, according to psychiatrists.
detox for a month and you'll be fine
nah, no way. at such stage, just stop takin them, and within 48 hours, you'll be fine.

well put. i too know tons, and have many friends whom i've had to disconnect myself from because of that; most can't fly right as "chippers"... people who can take it or leave it, and drop such habits at the drop of a dime. they subdue the desire to use, and are detatched from the drug itself.
drugs temporarily activate certain psychic faculties inherent in our constitutions; while true meditation(ie. attitude of mind, right living and so forth) gradually(all true growth is gradual) and permanently activates them. upon this i will not enlarge, but seek to lay down hints and general propositions. anyways, beware, substance should not be used with lightmindedness.

Re: I think something is wrong with me
Don´t wanna be advocating anything, but I agree 100% with what i!!ustrious said.
Now, people react differently to, and handle differently, both drugs and medicine, that´s why it´s something that shouldn´t be encouraged with a "yeah, go ahead kid, knock yourself out" attitude, but a few months ago, a couple of experiences really helped me out A LOT, in an almost therapeutical way... and after that, I dropped it, just like i!!ustrious said, and fortunately, I´ve been able to do that my whole life... take it, learn from it (especially about yourself) and drop it.
If you can´t handle stuff, and don´t have friends that can help you handle it... stay away from it.
Re: I think something is wrong with me
I play squash 4 times a week and the last 2 months I have been in constant pain. I have been taking mild pain killers to relieve the pain. It got worse so I decided to go see the doctor. Turns out I had a high build up of uric and lactic acid in my feet and heels. I have been put on tabs to reduce the uric acid and have been pain free for the first time in a long time.
Re: I think something is wrong with me
I think so too!

I know someone very well in Greece who has a huge problem with uric acid and eating seafood has practically come to a stop for him (being greek, i'm sure its a huge deal for him). Anyhow this guy visited 7 different doctors (in US, UK and in Greece) and one of them told him to start drinking water with a high PH content. Apparently its helped him loads.
Re: I think something is wrong with me
^Shot Kamal, I drink 2,5 litres of water a day here because I am on the road and its so hot, 36 celsius today. Will see if I can get such water here!
