Out of this list I'll go for Garnier.

Re: Who is the greatest DJ of all time?

difficult one because each has done damage within thier own scene and obviously been an influence on us all at some point in time

Those DJ blurbs are grossly cringeworthy.

Re: Who is the greatest DJ of all time?

carl cox. I think he edges sasha for sure. probably not digweed though (and why isn't he on the gd list? - i'm sure they were thinking, it's not fair to have both sasha AND digweed.)

digweed was surely disqualified b/c he's the honorary GOAT.

And no DJ Shadow? How do they call jazzy jeff 'one of the cleanest scratchers of all time" and then right after him put Dj Qbert by comparison? I've seen jazzy jeff three times and he wasn't doing any scratching at all.

half those people shouldn't be on there. DeVit was dead a long time ago, and he's missed out on the last what, 12 years of dance music?

Re: Who is the greatest DJ of all time?

Sasha isn't consistent enough to be on that list.

I reckon all the dead people on the list have been missing out on some music, that's how it goes i guess.

No Ron Hardy?

Good to see my man Mr Saville in there though
Sasha isn't consistent enough to be on that list.
now!!! yes!!!!

but sasha's talent has been life changing for many people especially in the northern exposure days and for that reason i would say sasha deserves to be in that list

i,ve been thinking about this all day now and still cant make up my mind, its really the case that i dont want to choose, even fabio and grooverider had a huge influence on me right from the very begining, laurent garnier changed my life/musical taste twice, sasha did the same as have weatheral and vath within thier own rights.

what can i say? how many times have u been asked this question in ur lifetime

i,m now old enough and wise enough to refuse to answer it because each and every person in the list ( with the exception of a few ) have influenced how i live my life @ one point and its for that reason and that reason alone that i have a lot of respect for them all

Snaz - "Can I touch you"

Digweed - "Huh?"

Snaz - "I just wanna say I touched the DJ that changed my life!"

Diggers ends up giving him his copy of Heaven Scent...sniff

Tiesto SANDER VAN DOORN comment:
...From the moment I started producing, he picked my music up and promoted it – he's one of the DJs who got me where I am today. Re:

That list is too convoluted with overlapping genres. Perhaps, if it was seperated into categories, accurate choice(s) could be achieved.

That being said, :deadhorse:

Re: Who is the greatest DJ of all time?

how do you define "greatest"?

Re: Who is the greatest DJ of all time?
how do you define "greatest"?
By accepting that we're all different in every way we are influenced, the period of time we came of age, our particular personality in relation to music and a million other factors that make anything as subjective as artistic performance something you can't compare between one another, never mind different time periods so just enjoy what you enjoy and stop making the whole world a fuckin pop chart. Is Larry Levan the greatest? Tiesto may think not. But they are simply people who put records on in clubs for fuck's sake. One may have influenced everything you've ever done or you may have just gone out clubbing for a certain period of your life and enjoyed everything that came with it and that's all, so fucking what?

My favourite colour is green but i'd be interested to know about other peoples' favourite socks

Let's see what the greatest DJ of them all has to say on the matter?

Re: Who is the greatest DJ of all time?
how do you define "greatest"?
i think it's a more objective take on the dj's career. i would have otherwise voted oakenfold since he basically pulled me back into electronic music. but given that his productions have been rather poor and his inability to mix has become more observed over the last decade, it's hard for me to say he's goat. i think the goat needs to have consistency in rocking the venues they play (i.e. not having off nights), the ability to play a wide selection of tunes (instead of, say, only the records on your own label or your own mixes back to back to back), a stream of singles and mix compilations (if you're putting out a compilation every few years, then wtf right?), and have had a strong part in the polularization of edm in general. (and, I'd say, been around at the top of your game for at least two of the last three decades as well - greatest of all time, if you think about it, means you've also been in the scene a long time. not a johnny-come-lately dj. at least that's how i look at it).

i think you could find maybe 10 -15 dj's who fit that profile that nobody can really argue about. (some of which, ahem, aren't on that list). i think from there you can start making subjective points.

whatev tho, as someone said above, 'oh look another list!

Re: Who is the greatest DJ of all time?

Gotta laugh at some of these names. Erol Alkan? 2 Many DJ's? Jazzy Jeff?

And Tiesto 'always changing his style'? How exactly. He was playing euro trance in 2000, and he's still playing it now.

I'd argue for Tong to be included in there, just for his UK influence

This. Goes without saying he not the most naturally gifted…but influential…no doubt.

But it is an unanswerable question in my eyes.
