Re: BedRock 12
Firstly great to meet up with people from the [ms] and Bedrock boards that had flown in from far flung places and they really enjoyed the early part. Especially great to meet Feather & Shpira - plus kudos to D-zone & Funkykarma for making the long haul trip & nice to catch up with Chunky & meet Matt + posse who made the trip. Must have been about 50 of us incl friends !
A really good night with some stellar music. Venue had plus points and minus : amazing visuals - stage looked great .... although sound was too loud, bass heavy and lacked clarity, so it didn't capture the full dynamic range of all the music that the fabric sound system would. Assume this was venue restrictions as the sound needed to project to the back of the huge room.
The first 2 x hours (10 til 12) were fantastic .... real Bedrock vibe from the people that had got in to hear John from the off. Diggers was pretty up tempo and the new B12 tracks sounded great - John & Nick's 'Bilder' was huuuuuge.
I didn't catch much of Carl Cox ... went to give my ears a rest, chat to people in the foyer and catch some of Jim Rivers who played some nice stuff.
Returned for John's second set : 3 til 6 had a v nice dark heads down 90 mins which I loved. Vortex in full flow and Ryan Davis - The Wolve (Max Cooper Remix) was just too epic for my words to do it justice. Another high point, to quote a friend:
"Diggers dropped an insane tune with (i kid you not) a 6-8 min breakdown.....was un-f*cking-believable....place went right off!!!!!! So amazing it blew my camera while filming it.....amazing what John can do !"
Felt the last hour was a bit too banging (but then others really liked that part). I'd have preferred some more melodic Bedrock tracks/anthems.
To finish there were 3 x classics : Age of Love & Open Up. The coup de gras was a lovely touch at the end - the other key part of the 'Bedrock' entity, Mr Nick Muir did a live version of Heaven Scent, showing off his masterful keyboard chops !!!
