I ordered this beauty yesteday. I need a notebook for college and this was the best I could find for the money. Though it's kinda heavy and that Pentium probably drains the 12-cell battery pretty fast, it has plenty of memory and hard disk space and has all the extras I wanted.

I really wanted an Apple Powerbook, but I'm not quite comfortable enough with them (and I can't afford to re-purchase OSX-ports of all the software I have now.) But the college I'm attending (www.expression.edu) should give me enough experience with Apple so the next computer I buy a couple of years down the road will most likely be a Mac.

Now I just need this and I'll be ready to rock :)

Right on bud!!! I just bought this one yesterday online at costco.com. The only difference is I upgraded to a 3.4ghz and got the 128 meg video card upgrade too.

You can't beat Costco's return policy. If for any reason you're not happy with your laptop, you can return it to any costco within 6 months no questions asked!!

nice I like HP products.

What is it with some of these laptops hard drives. They always seem to be 4800 or 5400 RPM instead of 7200 like most desktops. It seems that people would want a faster hard drive in their laptop. Especially if they are making music...they deserve a fast as hell hard drive.

There should be a computer made specifically for music makers. And it also should not be high as hell priced.

I'm on an apple now. right this minute I have MS word open, safari (obviously), ichat, itunes, photoshop, and I'm ripping DVDs. Love this mac!!!!! That HP is very sweet though, BUT it's still windows. sorry.

I'm on a mac 12 inch powerbook G4, 867MHz, 40GB HD, 160GB usb2 external, 640MB RAM, 32MB vid memory. works awesome, can't wait for the powerbook G5.

Thanks the links!!!I love MS!!

Yeah I'm awaiting the G%5 Laptop also. Plus Apple has an application where you can run windows XP on it. My friend showed it to me the last time I was at his house. Awesome that it can do that. But he did say it tended to crash sometimes. I guess it'll be a bit longer before they are able to make a windows OS that will work well with the Mac OS.

That day will come and it will be a great day of unification.

Re: New Computer

Got my new toy delivered yesterday afternoon. I didn't expect such fast shipping. This this rocks! The sound card is rather average, but I expected that.

One thing I hate about manufactured PCs is all the software they load that I could do without. I had to uninstall a lot of crap...Quicken, Muvee AutoProducer, MS Money (does anyone on the planet use MS Money?), MS Office 2003 (some trial edition), MS Works, Zone Games or something, and a TON of links to AOL, American Greetings, and other website I couldn't care less about. The only 3rd party programs I kept were Norton AV 2005 and Sonic RecordNow.

Anyway, after cleaning it up, installing my own programs, transferring my files, and a bit of customizing, I am very happy with it. There's still some things I need to test out (battery life, wireless connectivity, etc), but so far, it's great.

Well, I'm back to flamethrowing Allied troops in Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. :)

Re: New Computer

How long did they say it was going to take to get to you? My HP says it's going to ship on the 18th... which was basically 2 weeks after I ordered it. If it's going to get here sooner, HELLL YEAH!!

i can run more layers of audio tracks or midi tracks/vst's/vst-i's then i will ever need ;)

renders a whole song in live in seconds!!!

i bet this thing would squash any of your g5's...oh yeah, and the cost was hundreds less!

I ordered mine on a Wednesday afternoon and received it the following Friday afternoon. It was a "ready-to-ship" model (meaning it was prebuilt, no customizing) and I choose the 5-7 day shipping option (which was free.) Maybe someone made a mistake and shipped it 2 day, but I still got the free shipping.

Now these days you can choose to have a 7200 rpm with your notebooks. This is my current toy and am so very happy with it right now......http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_xps?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs#tabtop

My current favorate games such as World of Warcraft, HL2, Far Cry, The Chronicles of Riddick and Doom 3 run like butter. Had it configured wiith the 9800 256mb Radeon. :D
