Progressive vs. Electro House

Just realized that I don't enjoy progressive house as much anymore; instead, I have been listening to techier sounds a la Luke Fair/Desyn Masiello/Zabiela... Is electro the new progressive?!

P.S. I suppose Sasha and even Digweed (Fabric 20) jumped on the electro bandwagon as well

I've been drawn lately to the sounds of the aforementioned dj's, as well as the electro sound, but then i popped in nick warren's set from tel aviv and i'm right back into the dark nasty sounds of progressive music..

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

Well progressive house is supposed to progress like the name should suggest it...I do not think electro is the next progressiv, it is probably a branch of progressive music... But their iis only 2 styles of music: Good music and Bad music... Progressive is also more of a style than just music it always evolves...

Damn that vid is funny LOL. Is that the same group that does that "electronic supersonic" video? Speaking of which, anyone know a link to that video? :D

I dont think its a "case of jumping on the band wagon" with Digweed and Sasha, they've both being trying to get away from the "Progressive" tag for Years.

They will both no doubt say that if they like a tune, they will play it whether it is electro sounding or proggy.

Was at Sasha and Digweed @ Colours in the Arches in Glasgow, Easter last year and Sasha played a few "electro" sounding tunes and quite frankly it didn't go down to well. However he was a bit mashed. Digweed on the other hand was as per usual flawless.

As long as they both continue to play upfront, dark, moody atmospheric tunes then thats what it all about.

Finally there are alot of quality DJS out there as well as Sasha and Diggers!

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

It takes a while to enjoy electro, but once you get into it....you are sucked in for life...if not just listen to Masielo or Zabiela when you are working out and you would not want to stop..right armandzadza???

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

When Digweed played some electro house type stuff at Bedrock's last Bday, it did not go down well at all. You could just sense the crowd lose it but as soon as the Diggers sound returned it picked right up again. Personally I like Electro but it does not really compare to prog. Also imo Zabiela is not really electro but a mixture of all sorts. Desyn is much more so but then again I am not that keen on his sound. Just my 2 cents worth :)

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

Genres suck balls... Not everything has to be labeled.

I play progressive, electro, house, tribal, etc.etc.etc.

Is electro the new progressive... probably not but it's being played a lot more by major house and progressive dj's.

It's all about finding the music that moves you and not classifiying everything.

Very well put In-Sight.

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

I totally agree that everything does not have to be pidgeon holed and that good music is good music, but if music was not segregated into genres at all then we would just have...... music. And then how would we know what we were going out to, who plays what, the style of the tune you heard last night etc.... :? As long as people are not closed minded to other sorts of music just coz they are a prog head or whatever then it does not matter.

#435257Post 28 of 35
good music is good music. thats all you need to know.
Agree. When you label music it just ruins everything.

#435372Post 29 of 35

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

I think it's whatever the bigger dj's get caught up in. Since Digweed touched electro, perhaps to even experiment, most every label and producer started catering to what he wanted and because of that, we now see more and more electro tracks come out and more and more sucky progressive tracks. I'm not a huge fan of electro but if you can combine different forms of music, you can take things to a different level. The day Diggers goes back to prog will be the day he sees quality progressive again.

Re: Progressive vs. Electro House

I feel that as long as it makes me shake my ass, along with other people. Then it is good. BTW the new Zabiela rocks the house.
