Are there any DJs playing music like Desyn did 3-4 years ago?

I've been out of the scene for a while now as a lot of the music I hear these days has got too weird and noisy. Even Desyn seems to have fallen off the face of the planet for a while and the stuff he's playing when he does pop up is certainly not what it used to be. Luke Fair was another I used to really like the sound of, but haven't heard too much from him recently. Ricky Ryan plays some great stuff, but would like some alternatives.

Anyone got any suggestions on where I should start looking?

BalErik, Andy Newland

...you need to play catch up with Luke Fair though, he's been completely on top of his game imo.

you need to check Desyn out again mate, saw him twice in Miami and he played some great music

Luke is on fire dj and production wise

check out, jody wisternoff, joris voorn, tom morgan

to be fair, Desyn didn't go anywhere, just been doing a lot of stuff with Omid and Demi

you must have been completely out of the scene because Luke hasn't gone any where.. welcome back =) there's some great music out there

check the P&R section!

Steve Graham's WMC promo 2010 is wicked too. You won't find anybody playing what desyn did 4 years ago. But there's plenty of quality house music out there.

Do you mean not playing the same tracks, or not playing the same type of sound?

Not playing that type of sound. Desyn has said in interviews he's embarassed about the music he used to play.

I kept a few from 2004-2006. Love that Home Budapest 2006 4+ hours. But it's defo borderline cheese. I think he walked that line pretty good back then.

here's that home 2006 marathon, this one actually 20 minutes longer than my copy

What about his E-mix from WMC in 2005? that was stormin'. Colby; that budapest set is good too.

Re: Are there any DJs playing music like Desyn did 3-4 years ago?

yeah the EM was from october 2004 I believe, and yeah Mariner the Home set is great. It's funny cuz most I think most desyn fans love him back then and not too much recently.

^ I could say that about several dj's. Sharam and Ali por ejemplo.

I never got the deep dish hype back then and especially now. To each their own i guess.

Have you heard their first e-mix? Man, so good. Still hits the spot. Same for their Renaissance and Yoshiesque stuff.

If that's true then that really is a shame, he had a signature sound, which is a lot more than I can say about him and plenty of other DJs I used to listen to these days. I can understand evolving your sound to stay fresh, but everything seems to have de-evolved with everyone regressing to a similar place.

I can relate to the Deep Dish analogy though, those Yoshiesque albums were proper house music, these days what they play and produce is nothing of the sort.

:D

That's how I felt about many DJs for years. It's gotten better though.

Re: Are there any DJs playing music like Desyn did 3-4 years ago?

what desyn plays now (well the last thing i heard is the cha cha set from brazil) is complete incomprehensible to me. Luke Fair has/had a similar sound and he plays quality house music still nowadays. Add2Basket deserves a mention as well. he came out really big in the last 2 years or so

here my fav desyn set from the past http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L86EVVD5 (link by gatz)

 1. Rai - Thinking Of Suzzane [Solstice]
 2. Kai - Find Myself [CDR]
 3. Teamsters - Feels Like Love (Morjack Mix - LA Dub) [Positiva]
 4. Steve Angello - Groove In You [Oxyd]
 5. DJ Sender - Torque [Sureplayer Black Label]
 6. Gavin McAll - Im Alright [Born To Dance]
 7. Pornorama - Leliwa (Porn Hq) [Earrisistable]
 8. Castelli + Perozolli - Love Paradise [Alternative Route]
 9. Andy Cato - The Moon [CDR]
 10. One Hit Wonders - Grace Of God (Raul Rincon Mix - LA Dub) [Gut Instinct]
 11. Cricco Castelli - Life Is Changing [Aroma]

BTW those were the times were angello & ingrosso made amazing house music as well!!! today = o_O

has anyone kept current with what he's putting out on his label, Alternative Route? I'jm curious to see if anyone thinks his change in direction in music has affected what's being put out on that label....

Re: Are there any DJs playing music like Desyn did 3-4 years ago?

I feel sorry for anyone who didn't get to see desyn live during his hey day... one of the best livesets I've ever been at was his set from Mexico.

And if for some strange reason you haven't heard Desyn's for Jimbo and Felix mix: http://www.sendspace.com/file/qmrq9t 01 - 00:07 - Conjure One - Pilgrimage 02 - 07:11 - ID 03 - 11:17 - Crazy P - Love On The Line 04 - 17:24 - Situation 2wo - If You Cant Sleep (Scope's Miami Dub) 05 - 24:28 - Heather Johnson - Washes Over Me (Rasmus Faber Epic Dubstrumental) 06 - 28:34 - Sultan & Ned Shepard - Block Party 07 - 34:41 - Jay Kay - The Dream 08 - 41:47 - Dinka - Meaningful Story (Jayetech Remix) 09 - 47:53 - Club 84 - Sophie (Michael Cassette Remix) 10 - 53:58 - 11 - 58:61 - Solila - Blazing 12 - 61:68 - Hideo Kobayashi - No Nothing - Original Mix 13 - 68:74 - ID 14 - 74:end - Clay - My Unknown Love

Re: Are there any DJs playing music like Desyn did 3-4 years ago?

I think for Desyn to say he's embarresed by his sound a few years ago is ridiculous. Back then the electro sound was ruining our ear drums. His sound was a breath of fresh air. It got me going that extra yard in the wee small hours!!

If he's embarrased about that then that's so shit. I've downloaded the Mix for Jimbo & Felix last night and the Cha Cha set last night. Will listen to them today.

klangfabrik - I remember that set too, they were so consistently good back then. I was there for his set at HonkeyTonks Melbourne which I know got recorded and posted on to the internet around the same time I think, that was such an amazing night.

88 Mariner - Alternative Route seems to have stopped releasing music. 3 releases since July 2008 and none since June last year. Symphonic Records was the same, they had so much amazing music signed for release that never saw the light of day.

Well I guess that pretty much tells us of how much an artist Mr. Masiello really is .
