I'll be expecting a good beating for this but I hope it's better then the last few mixes of his. The last started with some boring as hell floating prog, then got going halfway through cd 1 then went back to the ball-less prog. I wish he'd add a bit more grit this time.

He's one of those DJs who lacks any sort of edge in his tunes.

Fabulous news, the whole concept about 105 bpm really intrigues me , I read on an interview before that hernan on his spare time spins disco, i highly doubt this will be the case though it might have some elements of it or maybe some dubby chill out mix . Im super stoked about this !!!

Looking forward to this, but I do hope it's more like his Masters releases as opposed to his Sequential releases.

Saying that though, a CD from him of something other than house would be welcome. Look at what Reykjavik did for Warren's career - always worth experimenting IMO

This reediting and remixing exclusively for a mix is starting to sound bit boring now. Remixing as many tracks as you can, does it make your comp better or just different? [/SIZE][/FONT]

Looking forward to this. I thought the last Renaissance Masters CD was one of the best CDs of the year. A lovely journey through some fluid progressive grooves. I personally love the way his CDs have been edited and put together. I think they flow very well.

I don't know I have seen Hernan play an 8 hr set and did not stop dancing once, he always seems to have a varied styled arsenal of tracks, whether the masters stuff is a bit more refined than the show use to be, I have no problem with, cause in a club he takes it to the streets, makes me shake my head in disbelief in the unique nature of tracks he always seems to get a hold of.

hi guys

i've touched on this before, albeit on another forum (i think).

the reason for the original productions and alternative discs is to differentiate the compilation from the glut of live recorded sets you can download so easily these days. in fact, look no further, this very board is one of the key outlets of such material. straight-up club sets are ten-a-penny so its really important a comp' clearly demonstrates its had a lot more thought and effort put into it and the content has some form of exclusivity about it (beyond sourcing tracks from their mates 10 months ahead of release, that's another ship that's well and truly sailed).

the alternative, home-listening inspired discs we're is a further extension of this. again, the club sets are easily obtainable, so offering something that keeps the electronic feel at heart but with a twist is a further contribution. i also think these mixes stand the test of time better, which gives the album longevity. for some reason, chilled tracks are no where near as disposable as club material.

Yeah I kinda know what you mean but I think its just the hype of the whole night out...the atmosphere and the crowd...+ you know that he's gonna tear you a new one so you@re all excited about that as well :) Cattaneo is one dj that I can say never let me down.

I can see where marcus james is coming from, but then this whole 'edits to make a comp' will also become another boat that's sailed just like sourcing for white labels 10 months before release. To a noob like me who's not familiar with the tracks, I can't tell the difference anyway. As long as it's good music that flows.

I remember a time when comps were mixed on decks and you could hear tracks being mixed in or friends who DJ would marvel at how the mix was done. Not anymore though, everything's either put together on a computer or a convenient edit to make the mix smoother.

it's a good debate this and one i am happy to hear more thoughts on. feedback's always welcome, positive or negative...

feather - if the editing makes a mix better, smoother, call it what you will, doesn't that make for an improved listen / album? to be fair, there have been very, very few comps' mixed on anything other than a computer for the past 8-10 years.

I agree, nowadays if you want to sell a compilation you must differentiate it from the endless quantity of live and studio sets available in the web. Editing and remixing are one of the ways in which djs are putting some effort into compilations...

Weren't some of Howells early mix CD's all mixed on decks live? They have stood the test of time.

As long as the tunes are good then I'm not that bothered! Seems to me though that people put too much thought into the editing, mixing etc and forget that the actual music has to sound decent e.g. Involver 2 (which I thought was a little over-indulgent)
