Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

unfortunately not for sale... but I've been allowed to utilize them in my own studio project for now.

Been wanting a Virus for a LONG time... I just about freaked out when I found that...

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

lovely stuff

I still have my juno 106 and despite 1 or 2 keys not working it sounds magic.

I used to have an sh101 but sold it a few years ago. Doubled my money but what a stupid move - class machines!

how the hell do you just "find" stuff like this?

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

there´s some nice equipment there! I love the Juno, and the Novation drum machines (you´ve got two). Make some noise with that!!!

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

first of all great find! second, how long have you been dating? If I was with a girl and she knew I was into music and this never came up until we just happened to find it all.. I'd grab the gear and lock her in the basement

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

haha we've only been together a few months... I knew she had some stuff in the basement left over previously from a family member, but I didn't think there was all that much left. She had been encouraging me to go have a dig in the basement, so I did... I just about freaked out when I saw the Virus and the Juno... plugged em into my JBL monitors and turned it up... WOW. The sound is just something else... I don't have any other outboard gear, I do all my stuff in Logic so I'm learning how to get it all hooked up. I've got the Virus playing in Logic now via my MIDI controller.

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

here's a basic rundown of what they are by pic...

1: Yamaha rs7000 sequencer/effects unit.

2: yamaha mixer

3: yamaha rm1x sequencer/synth/sample unit

4: behringer mixer

5: Novation Bass Station...there's two of them on top. Not sure why there's two..but hey the more the merrier. This is an analogue synth, rack mount model. Makes some killer sounds. Really looking forward to getting this one hooked up...it's still down there. Those are probably pretty pricey.

below that is a Midi interface for old macs...obsolete as far as I can tell.

below that is 2 samplers by e-mu

6: Studio Electronics SE-1. This is another analogue synth. I believe it was made to mimic the original Moog sound. This is worth a good chunk of change I think...

below that is an old tape deck ! woop. I think I'd actually like to use this for effect purposes... bounce some drum loops and stuff to tape, then re-import to logic... would probably sound cool.

7:mixer thing...

8: Same mixer thing but with other stuff on top...

above that is two outboard effects units, above that is some sort of filter bank. "ELECTRONIC MUSIC STUDIOS LONDON 8 OCTAVE FILTER BANK" Does anybody know what this is?

9: Top left, Boss DR606 drum machine. sweet. top right, Korg sequencer effect unit. bottom..... Access Virus B. This is a BEAST. It's an analogue synth from 2000ish... This thing makes some absolutely wonderful sounds... A really popular unit in electronic music production, especially in Trance and Industrial and stuff.

10: Roland Juno 106. Analogue CLASSIC.

Roland SH101. Another analogue synth...really popular in dance production over the years.

If anybody has a better idea on value, I'd like to know !

I can't wait to get all this stuff hooked up... I'm broke though and I don't have any money to get the stuff to get it all hooked up proper. I've got an Apogee Duet interface, which only has two inputs. I didn't think I'd be buying any outboard gear (or finding any) so I didn't get an interface with more inputs. So, right now I can really only hook up one at a time...I've currently got the Virus hooked up by sending MIDI from Logic, through my MIDI keyboard, to the virus, then I have the two outputs on the virus going into the Apogee, and back into logic. So at the moment I can't really hook up any more of this stuff...

I'm still trying to figure all this stuff out, all the MIDI stuff that is. Like I mentioned, previously I've just been doing everything inside logic with plug ins and nothing outboard. I guess I need to get an interface with more inputs and a MIDI interface with multiple outputs, or can I just daisy chain all the MIDI gear ?

anyways... really happy !

Sounds like all you need is two other like-minded individuals to run these things and you're ready to be the next Underworld / chemical brothers / prodigy  good luck w. your new quest my friend ;)

Got some of it hooked up... just plugged in the SE-1 and the Bassstation today... they sound so good. The sounds they make, especially for bass lines, just have so much life.

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

I have some similar equipment (I wish I had that Juno and the DR606). Tha novation bass station is more than beautiful. I have tha keyboard model, it´s analogue, it makes deep sounds with 2 osc and a nice LFP. Best thing you can do without buying more stuff is to connect in daisy-chain mode a drum station, a bass station, and the other synths you´ve got (up to 6 instruments, with cables of 2 meters long, it works without delay). you connect this chain to your midi output (soundcard or usb/midi adapter). All the audio outputs you mix them in the mixer, where you can add some effects (I´m sure there´s one in all that stuff), and use the mixer´s eq. Try using Ableton live to compose in midi, and that will work very good, and believe me, you´ll sound like hell !! If you are a mac user, try "Numerology". It´s a nice software, similar to reason in it´s interface, but it has functions to control external hardware via midi or control voltage (older synths). If you want, PM me and I´ll tell you more, if that helps. please: don´t sell the equipment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

@diegoff:

Right now I'm running MIDI from Logic, through my MIDI controller, and then have the Virus, Juno, SE-1 and 2 BassStations all daisy chained. I do have a mixer, but I still only have one stereo pair into the computer, so I could run all 5 instruments into the mixer, then the computer, but then they'd all be on one channel in Logic.

What I've decided to do for now is just hook up one instrument at a time and record in one track, then switch around as I need.

#1370042Post 32 of 36

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

if you only have 1 stereo input, the only thing you can do is to record one at a time... it will be in synchro because of the midi, but it takes more time. I tried this, and the result was awsome. I recorded one track in multichannel and mixed it in the computer. and then recorded the same track, but only the stereo mixdown, because this time I used the mixer and a digital reverb I have. Of course it was something simple, just to listen to the differences between the two systems. believe me, mixed in the real mixer, the audio obtained had more "life", more dynamics, and I could go hard with the mixer's eq and it was sweet the final mixdown. Mixed in the computer, the audio was smooth, but compressed, and the eqs behave more violent. I don't know how to describe it, try it and you'll see... good luck!

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

haha YES. likes that.

I've just gotta say, after having all this gear for a few weeks, I've really come to appreciate proper analogue gear. I never thought much of trying to acquire analogue stuff previously, but my mind has been changed. People always talk about the 'warmth', which is true, but just the way that the sound is dynamic when you modulate various parameters, is totally different. I'm sold, never letting go of this stuff !

You struck gold my friend.

Re: my girlfriend had these in her basement...

rather than be too concerned with the pc, can you not use the 7000 to record loops and/or the rm1x as a sequencer?

i think you'll go further with this kit if you take a "hardware" approach as that is what you've been blessed with.

Build all you do as loops and sequence it without the interference of a computer, mix down your finished piece to the soundcard by all means but don't feel handicapped by only having one stereo in. You have enough equipment to mean you can work without a pc so think in those terms maybe?

cheers
