Evening all

Heading to Madrid in June for a stag do, which I am organising.

We are staying in the centre of town, but I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on decent places to go? Not just bars, but stuff to do in the daytime?

I am planning on a tour of the Bernabeu, and we are really hoping that there will be some open air parks to watch the football in (there were in Hamburg during Euro 2008)

Any tips or ideas greatly appreciated!

Re: Anyone been to or live in Madid?

Prado museum is a must if youre in madrid, its the biggest in spain and its famous for their royal collections, large collection of italitan art, you will see garden of lust by bosch - amazing, countles paintings by rubens, naked maya by goya and a lot more, but take your time for this one coz its huge (another tip take a warm jacket with you coz their air conditioning is set to 16'C and after awhile you get really cold ;)) it can be very hot in madrid but the air is really dry so its quite comfortable even if it gets to 40'C or over

Re: Anyone been to or live in Madid?

The art museums are amazing. The Prado obviously but also check out the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza for some of the best art of the last 4 or 5 centuries or so.

Buen Retiro park is a nice place to while away a few hours. Plenty of cool squares and momuments to check out too. Plaza Mayor is the pick of the bunch.

You after recommendations for clubs too ?

Re: Anyone been to or live in Madid?

We stayed in Puerta del Sol, it walking distance to the Plaza Mayor. It's close to everything actually.. The Prado and Reina Sofia museums are a must. I loved Madrid, drank sangria all day, and all the food I ate was excellent. I even found an Argentine place that was the best I've eveer had. PM me if you want more details. I'd be happy to help. :D

Here's a hotel

Re: Anyone been to or live in Madid?

Deliberate typo just for you Steve :)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. To be honest, museums are not really my thing so I may pass on that but will mention it to the group.

Is it really easy/difficult to get around the city?

I am hearing that it is a 'party' city - is this true?

The real hope is that they will show the football on giant screens outdoors somewhere

Yah I just avoided the thread altogether for that same reason. (click on edit then "go advanced" to edit the title)

My friend and his parents got robbed there while they were sleeping, other than that I hear it's lovely.
