if you don't like it or think you're too cool for it, lol, who cares, don't use it.. but please don't attempt to make people that do use it and enjoy using it feel inferior, just makes you sound like a twat
This.

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

Nah, do not think people who use FB are inferior. Many people love spending 3+ hours of their day gossiping or commenting on silly pictures, was wondering whether there is any other compelling use for it. For contact over big distances, email seems to work just fine.... For work, LinkedIn is great. Not dissing it, just don't see the point :)

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

^^For some, it is used to keep friends in the loop with what has been going on in their life (Pictures, status updates, etc)....For others, it is a way of networking with other like minded people (Music, art, business, etc).

Some people like it because they can upload a picture of their newborn baby, new dog or whatever, and grandma/grandpa (Who might live across the country) can login and see it..

But that's the problem - you are uploading these images and thoughts to a public site. Who goes and puts their photo albums in the window to show everyone? Surely it's better to just send an email out to the family with the pictures and updates ?

It just seems so impersonal, as if clicking on a link saying "Yes" is the equivalent to a real friendship.

facebook is cool for staying informed about whats going on in friends lives.

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

Call me old fashioned but i manage to stay in touch with family and friends without facebook. People i've not spoken to or seen for years remain just that, usually for good reasons. Whatever people get from the site for their own ends, fair play to em - but from what i've seen of some of it, it's just not for me.

"today i think i might stroke my dog"

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

But, yeah, if I want to upload nekkid pics of my ex for everyone to see how evil she is for cheating on me and breaking my heart then there is no better place to do it than mine and her [hacked] bookface accounts. Right?

Has anyone mentioned stalking and cyber bullying yet?? Appears to work really well for those activities. !! And because other people feel it's ok to put anything up, even if you are not a member you can be stalked through it.

Yeah I mentioned stalking earlier.

My friends 14 year old daughter put some photos of herself posing in her underwear for her friends to see. My friend only found out because he hacked her account.

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

Facebook has its advantages and disadvantages like any social networking tool imo, I mostly use it to track all my fav artists; which is rather cool or else I would never find the time to individually look them up.

On the flip side I do believe that all these social networking apps will be the death of us eventually :p

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

Facebook is a non-obtrusive way of keeping abreast of what is going on in your friend's lives. It has enabled me to reconnect with dozens of friends that I hadn't seen for years, and it's sort of nice to just see what everyone's up to. I don't really see the harm in it at all.

Don't understand the Mafia Wars/Farmville/etc. BS at all, though. :|

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

They had a 4 part documentary called the Virtual Revolution on TV recently. They did a great bit on Facebook. Apparently Bill Gates was getting 10 thousand friend requests a day:|

Someone used a photo of mine as their main profile photo on facebook.. which a friend of mine pointed out... apparently it's happened to her several times as well...

The layout is really easy to use . You can check out their music get tours dates etc. a lot easier. Not a member there either.

Let me in on the joke. :) Or is that just hysteria ;)

#1343947Post 66 of 94

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

I guess it is just a personal opinion, but to me myspace looks like someone has vomited a load of fliers up on the screen and allowed it to dribble down for several pages then swapped out the shiny quad core in your computer for a 486 and switched out your broadband for a 56k modem. And then added another 6 pages of unrelated people spamming stuff that nobody really cares about.

Just imo ;)

#1343949Post 67 of 94

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

Yeah, you are probably right. It looks crap. But everything I want is on the front page. As I said, play the music, check the tour dates. That's pretty much all I want so I don't need it to look good. !! :D

Best of all you can easily find artists. Not get "Is this the Joe blow you want ??" :)

the joke to me is it's funny to read all the paranoia-type posts regarding these websites.. "It scares the shit out of me.."

really? lol, wow

Regarding myspace, if you never really used facebook when it originated, myspace is going to seem more user friendly because everyone seemed to use myspace, and many artists still do

... I think a lot of people are late adopters because they wonder how many times there going to have to switch networking websites or what have you... And they already feel as though they use the internet enough as it is .

I agree, no point in being paranoid over a site. Either you want your stuff online or not. Even if you choose not to join FB, likely there are some photos of you on it anyway :p

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

^ lol

btw, I closed my FB acount... I started getting bored of watching everybody posting things I don´t care, and trying to show the world how "cool" they are, or how many "friends" they´ve got... fuck them! if you want to talk to me, call me or write me a personal email... are we friends or not? fuck FB imo

#1344018Post 73 of 94

Re: Facebook - is it worth it?

Yeah..I have a few "friends" that are constantly saying how ill they feel, or they're sick, or today's a crappy day...etc. I had to finally "ignore" them to not see their posts and a one of them are a closer friend too. It's like jeez..suck the life outta you with their attention wanting. I would just end up responding with "Again?". Other than that, I enjoy facebook.
