Blank CD recommendations?

I'm about to do a major backup/CD burning of music on my PC, and I am not sure what brand would be good for this. I've used Memorex in the past, but sometimes I'd get CDs with bugs in them or I'd get an error in the process of burning. Anyone know of some good brands that are reliable and I'll get my money's worth for?

Re: Blank CD recommendations?

TDK all the way baby

#324668Post 3 of 20

All the media they sell in the stores is pretty much crap. TDK is OK, used to be a lot better when they used Japanese media, now they use Taiwanese crap. Kodak is still decent, but expensive. Memorex used to use Tayo Yuden but switched, and Maxell used to be good too, but has also switched OEM's.

That link will take you to some of the best media you can buy for the price, I promise you. I've done lots of testing on various media, and tons of reading. You can do some of your own at club.cdfreaks.com Lots of great info there. If price is no object, Tayo Yuden is the absolute best media you can buy:

Re: Blank CD recommendations?

i like the Sony CD-R 700md cheap too

#324675Post 5 of 20

OK I lied. It seems Memorex has switched again, and their Black discs are RiTEK, same OEM that I posted in that Newegg link. Which means Memorex media now kicks ass again.

Some reading material for you on RiTEK media :

Also, seems Sony has stepped it up as well, and also makes good media which you can see tests of on that same site.

CD media isn't near as tempormental as DVD media any more, seems you can't go wrong as long as you buy name brand and not generic.

I have a crappy CD burner and I've tried type of blank CD's and TDK hands down is the best for me.

I havent bought memorex recently - but the ones I had tried - failed so many times it was ridicoulous; the cdrw's I could not get to burn more than once - dont know if they have improved recently - but I have no desire to try them again soon.

just my opinion.

I use Sony 700MB CD-R or Verbatim AzoMetal 700MB CD-R. Reliable.

I've seen those before. Ok so far I have two votes for TDK, and I know someone else who thinks they are pretty good too.

Re: Blank CD recommendations?

Taiyo Yuden is the undisputed champ for quality discs.

#325248Post 13 of 20

Taiyo Yuden

#325273Post 14 of 20

^Where can I get those? Sounds expensive + foreign :P

#325301Post 15 of 20

Re-read my first post there stottman. That site has Taiyo for a decent price, still too expensive IMO, and RiTeK is almost as good for less then half the price.

It was the second link http://store.yahoo.com/blankcdcdr/p-tywp80-25c.html

Re: Blank CD recommendations?

Hmm, the Taiyo ones don't look that expensive, at least not compared to other prices I've seen.

Can those be found at Circuit City or CompUSA?

#325426Post 18 of 20

I use sony all the way. Verbatim sometimes when I can find them.

#325432Post 19 of 20

I use Verbatim and never had any problems with them.
