I used to buy a TON of records from a place I believe was called "Release Records". I think they were based in Canada or perhaps northern Washington state. Does anyone know if this label/store closed down or changed hands? They had a great selection & great prices at the time (many many years ago) and I'd love to buy from them again now that I'm back in the DJ game. I'm sure I'm a day late and a dollar short on this store but if someone can clue me in I'd appreciate it.

Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
That is where I got all my tunes... Have not purchased in a while. I know they went to mp3 for a while and it was tough to buy rek-kids from them.
Quick google search turned up this:

Some of the logos look like the old release records logos... Hmmmmm
Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
Release Records store on Yonge St. in Toronto closed about 3 years ago. I think they still operate online. Im not sure if they sell/press vinyl anymore.. kinda doubt it
Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
Gone the way of most places I use to buy records from. :( My favorite was certain store in the UK that would get Bedrock test pressings! That was the only way I got ahold of some stuff I had no business canning in my living room every Friday. :D

Sorry Steve... don't know what they did, but you just made me remember that I had fraudulent charges made to my credit card the last time I ever bought something form there. I hope they caught the guy.
Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
crooks
OMG Steve! You just jogged my memory BIG TIME! I remember one order I placed (about 20 records) that got triple-charged. At the time I didn't think much of it other than it was an honest error. I had my bank correct it (which they did immediately) rather than calling Release...I wonder if that was in any way connected to the rumors of a fraudulent employee?
Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
i was told they were illegally pressing tracks to vinyl and selling them when they weren't actually even signed to the "label"
plus that promo pool is a rip off, 90+% crap for a ridiculous "membership" fee
Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
yup, I remember this place too. They started selling all kinds of test presses in plain white paper sheets. I have at least 20 30 records, not just from the release label but others as well. They got too pricey for my liking.

When they came up with that, I pretty much stopped visiting the site. Hooj started something like that too; which I did join. I think Hooj's method was different. worked out as credits. Wasn't too bad.
I think certain websites and or record labels started to realize people were looking for the pre-release, test press, white label authenticity. It was short lived.
Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
yeah i remember hooj's site, that was different than releasepromo, this is a "promo" pool where you give feedback to get pre release tracks, it's more legit than their actual label was or appeared to be, it's just most of the tracks were garbage as i joined a few years back and saw what it was all about. granted i got some good music, but the cost wasnt worth it
Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)

Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)

Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)

Re: Release Records (I think Canadian Store)
