AGORIA MIXES ‘BALANCE 016’

French techno genius Agoria has mixed the next volume in EQ Recordings stunning Balance compilation series, following on from Joris Voorn and Will Saul’s superb efforts.

We’ve had a sneak listen to Balance 016 and it’s an absolute joy again – moving from beatless, hazy soundscapes to wistful acoustic pop through to the involving, musical, hypnotic techno that Agoria is perhaps best known for and some rousing house music to boot. There’s 12 exclusive tracks on there, plenty of new producers, and an open-minded mixing strategy.

Agoria explains his intention for this intricate compilation: “The concept of both CDs is all about balance. Literally. In my mind a balance is not a middle position; it's a perfect equilibrium. I’m trying to be as close as possible to this idea. I have tried to find this fine line where the balance is just right. In the end, more than a DJ compilation, this is a manifesto of my passion for music and for mixing”

“I thought that to find the right balance, I needed to use all the ways of mixing. Editing tracks but also letting entire tracks play. Playing 3 or 4 times the same tracks, or spinning some for just a few seconds. Loopy or not. Exclusive, classic or covers, bizarre or easy listening, happy or trippy. 4 tracks together or just one. Loosing the listener for a minute to re-catch him the minute after. Spinning a classical music work of Jonny Greenwood at the peak time. Going up and then down. Starting and finishing with the same tracks.”

It’s not out ‘til March 15th – so you’ll have to hold tight for a while. Well worth the wait.

Alot like the sound Joris created on his balance cds. The first disc is a little too eclectic for me, it's very well done, but tends to lose me like the last half of Joris' disc 2. Listening to it again now. The second disc however is pretty rad, listened to it 3-4 times now. It has it's eclectic moments, but overall it keeps the pace up and even throws in a surprise little 303 at one point.

Yep, Balance Record Pool was a US thing that Fortier was involved with.

Balance is a record label based in Australia I believe.

listened to disc 2.........the best Balance to date, hands down. i've only listened to the first disc twice and the second once, but i am simply blown away. both discs are masterpieces. 10/10...and i never give 10's.
