Transitions continue into 2010 with the last batch of live sets helping us round off 2009.

After Pacha nyc last week it's time to head back over the Atlantic with two European dates that Diggers played with longstanding partner in criminality and mayhem, Sasha (although the music heard is all John).
Venues for the dates couldn't be more contrasting - while the Leeds night took place in a retro style dingy warehouse taking us back to the heady days of acid house, smilies, whistles and really bad clothing, the Budapest date was a large outdoor production set within a world heritage site. I was lucky enough to attend one of these events, albeit the less glamorous of the two.

For the remainder of January Transitions gets back to it's normal structure with some stellar guest mixes pencilled in from Luetzenkirchen, Rainer Weichhold and [ms]'s own Progno Queen Chloe Harris :Naughty:. Date / Sunday 24th May 2009 Venue / Victoria Works Warehouse » Location / Bowling Green Terrace, Leeds, LS11 9SP
The setting is a huge warehouse space, spread over 3 rooms and based on the outskirts of Leeds city centre in an industrial area. Victoria Works houses a huge sound system, state of the art lighting affects and multi lasers together with "unrivalled décor" and production. I have to say that the décor seemed rather sparse !

The first hour is a taster of John and Sasha's three date Spring UK tour. In the interests of EDM and in a moment of weakness I decided to go to each of these, which also included Cream (Liverpool) and Air (Birmingham). The final date was billed as an extended set, although John did most of the playing on the night, opening and closing. From my hazy memory I'd say this is possibly hour three.

The music
We join the set with a remix of Buzzin' Fly label owner Ben Watt's Guinea Pig which received great support last year from John and Sasha (who started his fabric return with the vocal variation) - the very cool M.A.N.D.Y. & Smallboy Remix also features in the WMC boat party set. This is followed by the deep tribal house of South Africa's Culoe De Song which develops into a beautiful and lushly layered production - in stark contract to a very advance preview of Guy J's darkly techy and industrial "Ballroom" which was perfect for the setting. Adding to the Warehouse feel is "Conflict", taken from Einmusik's "Atl Antis" EP (the title track featured on Sasha's Ibiza Sonica mix and was played again at Ministry of Sound January 1st).

Up next is a tune from that little rascal, Erphun, who came fully onto the radar in 2009 with some fantastic productions/remixes and a top notch Transitions guest mix (Episode 267) that's essential listening. Erphun has a clearly defined sound to his productions which are described as brooding, pounding, moody and transformative - in this case "Pesadilla Hermosa" is given the Pig & Dan treatment. The set continues to gather momentum with an older track ( May 2008 ), but an absolute gem - with Peter Stimming (last spotted on Transitions 275 with "Melodica") giving us a fantastic remix of "Vabanque" from Essen's Manuel Tur, whose versatile sound embraces a combination of tech, deep & funky house - if that sounds like your bag check out his artist album "0201".
We then have a few (as yet) un-ID'd tracks (all trainspotting support is genuinely appreciated) with some banging techno, that at this point was revereberating all around the Warehouse, leading us to the prolific Guy Judah doing a bit of moonlighting for another label, with "Shaman" showing that there's no limit to this GuyJ's versatility or talents.
The hour ends with a dark progressive stormer, leaving you wanting more and greater insight into how things develop.

Date / Wednesday 19 August 2009 - Venue / City Park Lake (Városligeti Tó) » Location / District XIV Budapest
The second set comes from an outdoor event located in Budapest's 302 acre public park close to the city centre in District XIV.
Enterring via Heroes' Square (Hősök tere), one of Hungary's World Heritage sites, the outdoor production was staged at City Park Lake (Városligeti-tó), which becomes the largest outdoor skating-rink in Central Europe during winter. In the summer it's known for it's musical pryo-technics ;)

The evening got underway with James Zabiela (who also did a fanstatic warm up for John and Sasha at the Warehouse Project in December) and reports are that the massive crowd thoroughly enjoyed the evenings proceedings, with East Europeans having a real passion and verve for electronic dance music. Hopefully the pics I've provided give you a real feel for the night.

The music
We get started with some tech house from multi-dimensional Berlin duo Pan-Pot and keep the techy vibe going through the iconic Cocoon Recordings, with Tim Green (who brought us "Rhythm Acupuncture" with a Martin Buttrich Remix making Hernan's Sequential 2) and Emerson Todd.
Next it's a couple of corkers via Amsterdam and Venezuela with Anton Pieëte teaming up with Delete (aka Sergio Munoz), fusing together the elements of cutting techno and latin-tinged house with a smattering of funk to bring us a three track EP for SCI+Tech, with two of those tracks featuring here.

After another (as yet) unidentified track we hit Bedrock 11 territory with the infectious Babylon, Maher Daniel's fantastic update on Bedrock classic "Rumblefish", and Erphun's dark, brooding stormer "The Little Rascal". We reach a crescendo with another update on a classic, this time Guy J tackles "Stage one" ... deep space ... abandoned ... any crew ... negative.
We are then brought back down to earth with the lush sounds of Joris's "Beach Kisses" remix on the very cool "Green" imprint of his Rejected label.
And that's it ... cue e-mail overload to Diggers requesting more !!! Me, I fancy some studio sets, but hope there's something huuuuuge lined up for show 300 in 20 weeks time.
As ever, this set is are available now in the [ms] downloads section - enjoy ;)
