Has Digweed lost a step lately??

Is it just me or had Diggers lost a step lately. It seems like all his kiss shows and transistions shows just are not doing it for me anymore. Even when I saw him live at the end of summer tour with desyn...it was probably my least favorite performance by him.....i did not even really like his fabric 20 cd that is coming out.

Now dont get me wrong, I used to be the biggest digweed fan around...I just dont seem to like what he has been playing lately.

Over the past few months, I've found that his hour of the show hasn't had many tracks which have caught my interest because he seems to be playing a lot which have electro sounds to them which I still just can't get into.... just my imo of it...

Been featuring many of the second hour special guest sets though...

#321417Post 3 of 48

Maybe ur taste are changing or his. I am sure diggers gets tired of playing the same damn records all the time. I will admit that his kiss 100 mixes this yr have not been top notch likes yrs paste and his fabric cd is nothing special but there have been highlights this yr. There have been a couple of kiss mixes that have been awesome but like I stay it always comes down to the quality of records that are out too. A dj is only as good as the tracks he has.

Re: Has Digweed lost a step lately??

I've never felt his Kiss shows, but the whole point of his Kiss and Transition shows is to show off new tracks and new producers. It' s not meant to be like his club shows.

#321459Post 5 of 48

I've like his Kiss shows personally. I think there have been some over the past few months which have been some of the best I've heard. Maybe he should go back to playing trance though.

Re: Has Digweed lost a step lately??

ive been digging the kiss shows, sure there is a miss every once and awhile but for someone to put together a show every week with all that music i think he's been on point.

switching to trance? who the hell would do that?

and the comment about his kiss shows being a showcase of new choons, not a typical set, is something i have been saying for ages.

while the kiss shows never do him justice, the CD's do a little more. but jon digweed is all oabout the live 4am acid pumping music. he has never ever showned what he can do in a set with anything recorded.

ask those who go to fabric or those who were at crobar at 6am in august. he gets proper filthy.

Yup, it's about being really fucked listening to proper drug music, which digweed delivers perfectly in a club. His Kiss shows are still good, if not a bit hit and miss, decent listening music imo.

Re: Has Digweed lost a step lately??

Yeah i agree with the kiss show and transistion show being a showcase for new tunes...but even the live digweed sets that he has been featuring on his show

Like the Space CLosing Party, and The Lush set.......have just seemed below average for Digweed....

THe last time I heard digweed in top form was at Space Miami with Sasha in 2003.......truly amazing

Digweed's Dec 12 Kiss set is my favorite of the year...very well done.

Question: Has Digweed lost a step lately??
Answer: NO

And this is why.

His KISS shows tell just a bit about him.. there's so many tunes he can't play on his show, so his hands are tied... anyway, recording a weekly show without repeating a single track is not easy.. and he does the job perfectly.

He's all about live sets.. Check his set at beirut.. look what tracks he played IN FEBRUARY! most djs started playing some of those tracks in june. He leads the way, he sets a marker. I had chance to see him live just twice, and HE FUCKIN ROOOOCKSS

Both nights blew my head off. Incredible mood, amazing groove, awesome strenght.. his sets were unbelievable.

That's why he hasn't lost a step imho

i still like his music, his guests and will continue to leach from MS :D

It's all Clear Channel's fault.

Why don't we just stop liking him, go to the Spundae L.A. board and worship Tiesto like most of their members.

Re: Has Digweed lost a step lately??

Digweed is a pioneer at leading dance music. I like to see him take new directions as long as he doesn't get lost. I think he is doing a great job at explorering all of eletronica. How can progressive music "progress" or change if we never experiment with different things?

#322318Post 24 of 48

i totaly agree with arielus on this one digweed, thrue his sets leads the way to a lot of djs outthere he and sasha are showing music that should be played in clubs and they are the first ones to bring it out to the crowds a lot of djs are influenced by this 2 great djs

#322331Post 25 of 48

My opinion is there are to many different sets with digweed around and it?s to hard to listen to everyone of them.

Like some have mentioned it?s also hard for digweed to bring some new good stuff every weekend.

Re: Has Digweed lost a step lately??

you can never compare his music to any of his kiss100 FM shows/livesets/CD's etc.

he's an amazing live performer. you can't emulate that outside of a club.

p.s - i was there @ crobar 6 am in august, and it was one of the most mindblowing digweed experiences of my life.

Re: Has Digweed lost a step lately??

i don't think he's lost a step recently. although you could argue otherwise with him dropping to #8 on the djmag 100.

his kiss shows sounds pretty much sound the same this year as previous years. like most said before that his live shows and kiss shows are different. i listen to his kiss 100 sets to hear new tracks coming out that i may want to buy on vinyl.

#322395Post 28 of 48

John Digweed has the same vibe as he had for many years ago.. probably you're feeling that he's lost a step lately because you're listening to him times and times again every weeks, every months.. I enjoy every weekly radio show on Kiss 100 FM as the same way I did 1 or 2 years ago, he play fresh tunes.. great tunes and sometimes giving us the opportunity to discover new producers with talent. He never been stucked to a unique genre of music.. he plays a bit of everything.. and that's a strong point for any dj. While live Digweed is simply amazing.. :)

Digweed for PRESIDENT!

#323737Post 35 of 48

No way has he lost a step... Yeah, he's playing a lot of deeper & techier stuff on his radio show, but that's his chance to play records he likes that he couldn't necessarily play out. Just because they're not to everyone's taste doesn't mean John is losing it - far from it, he's just playing a different sound. Hell, everyone's tastes change over time and he wouldn't be where he is today if he was still playing the records he played 10 or 15 years ago...

And as others have pointed out, he is still the best in the world imo at delivering seriously dark pounding beats at 6 in the morning

#323739Post 36 of 48

digweed is doing what he's been doing for nearly 20 years, Evolving. seems most people are just slow to catch up to him. and this is not saying he is spinning some new genre that we've never heard before, just saying he's moving on to the next thing that gets HIM off. he's playing some techier stuff yes, but he's just integrating that with the naughty naughty we all know he brings when the peak is on. and imo, he's doing it well. john has not lost a step at all.

Lost a step... no

Lose a tooth if he talks to me like he did again... yes

#324447Post 39 of 48

I thought the first three-quarter of the 19/12 Kiss set was good. Just caught him a month ago and mind-blowing as usual. I guess that's what I like about him, no matter how good we seem to already agree he is, he still manages to surprise and blow minds at every gig.

A bit ambivalent about the Fabric 20 though. Liked the first half of the mix, but overall, it doesn't seem to pack the usual "oomph" from his progressive sets. It doesn't sound distinctive or signature enough, I can't tell if I didn't already know he did the mix.

Digweed = :twisted:

Re: Has Digweed lost a step lately??

The whole point of his first hour is to mostly introduce new tracks/producers. It's nowhere representative of what he plays out live.
