Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
oh dear, none of my boys (and girl) made the top 10
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
was kinda of expected
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Resident advisor is the hipster equivalent of djmag....
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Too hip for me...
I don't listen to any of those dj's besides Voorn's Balance.
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
At least it has more sense than the DJmag Poll...
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Hey I like 60%of those Dj's...so I'm finally hip:what
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Diggers made it to 11 and got a good write up ... Sasha was a further 8 places back.

"It'd be easy to say that John Digweed holds onto his place in the RA DJ poll because of inertia. But that'd be selling one of the most famous DJs of our time short: Diggers continued his long run of excellence in 2009, traveling the world to bring his unique brand of uplifting and epic dance music to the masses. And while the progressive sound that made him so popular has fallen on hard times of late, it's simply highlighted the fact that what made him a great DJ was less that he was associated with a genre, and more that he's simply a great selector and mixer."

The poll is very techno vs minimal orientated - guess that's Aussie tastes.
Speaking of which Didi can't be proud of her compatriot's score for Hernan (42) !
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Good for diggers but Hernan 42?? Don´t think so.. Better than DjMag one tough
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Voorn should be at least a top 5...

I don't see the difference. I blame marketing.;)

I think it has more to do with the crowd that RA targets rather than it being aussie.
I find a lot of those djs pretty boring.
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
I'm surprised Hawtin is no.1.
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
go seth!

Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Maybe we didn't care!! Two of the Djs Ion that list are amongst the worst I have ever seen!! And it had nothing to do with genre, or what I like, they were just very bad !!
Well, my personal top10 would be totally different, filled mostly with proghouse legends because that is the music that brings me most emotions. But well, RA audience likes click clack minimal/techno :) Although some german dj's are awesome even when playing click clack.
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
 Hernan WTF?
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Yeah, silly isn't it??? What I probably find most disturbing about these polls is that skill doesn't seem to play much a part in it. And I do recognise and respect skill even if it isn't a genre I like very much !!
I just had another look , I'm amazed that Robert Babicz isn't there, he is a superb DJ and I would have thought would a have appealed to the RA audience. Once again not my genre.
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
the thing is tho if we did an MS poll it would be something like Digweed, sasha, hernan in the top 3 and i would still be dissapointed that my picks didnt get a look in.
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
^^True !
Hopefully we'd be fairly objective with other DJ picks .. the likes of Danny Howells and Luke Fair would probably do well ... Luke's result would then be at odds with the RA and DJ Mag polls !
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
There's defo some truth to the hipster thing. But for people slammin the list have you heard sets from these folks? Dixon & Seth Troxler have put out some great sets this year. Luciano is a party DJ in my opinion. I enjoy his sets for what they are. You'll always hear the same tracks for a year staright pretty much but his sets are fun imo. Hawtin has lost the plot imo and his sets bore the shit outta me, Magda too. I like Ricardo but haven't heard much from him this year. Just sayin theres a couple good DJ's on there
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
I was only really slamming two and one of them was Luciano. Went to the event for him, he phoned the set in and then not very well, trainwrecks the works. I reckon to get into the top ten in any poll you should be at least competent and he certainly wasn't that night. !!
Really ??? I saw Hawtin earlier this year , once again not my preferred genre, but he was very, very good !! Maybe I was just getting the technical aspects rather than what he could be expected to play!! :D
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
^ I reckon Hawtin & Magda u need to see live but their released sets just don't go anywhere imo. Seth troxler DIDI I'm tellin ya;)
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Hernan should be Top 10 in everyone´s list.. Same as Diggers and Sasha imo
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
^^^^ Enough said!!
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
We should do the [ms] Top 50 or something like that !!

Don't think that's it mate, it might have been started by an Aussie, but the editor at least based in Berlin, which probably accounts for it's leaning towards techno.

RA is techno nerd club, like reading Spin Magazine instead of Rolling Stone, all those DJ are great, seen at least half of them, but come on Villalobos and Hawtin, there is more to life than eight techno tracks playing on Ableton simutaneously and I cannot fathom the popularity of Luciano, his sets are listenable, but by no means get off the couch and dance at home type of stuff, total geek fest, really time for MS 100, how is RA any better than this site, jeez we have 30,000 members here, even though about only two hundred of us post regularly, we have the technology, Kamal something must be done to bring balance to the force, this needs to go to committee and a vote.
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Too right. Excellent idea. We bitch enough about these lists. [MS] needs to put together our Top list and we'll get simonr to write it up ;)8)
Re: Resident Advisor DJ TOP100 2009
Seth Troxler never heard of him. can any of you guys point me out something I should check out?

I think the reason is that RA positions them self as more of a news outlet than just being a message board, more like an online magazine I guess. They always have interesting articles and reviews, and their feeds are pretty much on top of what's happening at the moment.
MS is just more of a message board that people go and hang out at, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. Even though I'm a registered member on RA, and have been for years, I rarely if ever go on the forums. I can count the number of posts I've made on one hand I think! But I am on there everyday just to see what's happening and read reviews and any articles that catch m interest.
But in my opinion, half of those DJ's in the top 10 should be there, especially Hawtin Vath. Just didn't hear anything good from this year, but the rest were quality start to finish.
