yup, but society as a whole has become so lazy.. it's ok to not take care of yourself, there's always a shot or a pill that will "fix" me, and whatever side effects i get, there will be a shot or a pill for that!

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

that has to be a windup!

#1289035Post 15 of 68

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

dont know if true or hoax - it certainly could happen - especiually if there was an undiagnosed pre-existing condition.

However - you have to remember the other 200 million people who have had the flu vaccine and this had not happened !

(Its regular flu vaccine not H1n1)

#1289036Post 16 of 68

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

this isn't a hoax... i've been seeing this on a lot of news sources now for quite some time.

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

ya you're right, we aren't sure yet how the swine flu vaccine will fuck us up because there hasn't been testing.

Ya mercury (Thimerosal) is good. Look at the levels of autism between the ahmish and regular people. There levels are way lower because they don't get the vaccine.

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

^so you just skipped over the article and didn't read it i see. now again, this is just another webpage on the net, i have no idea who this author is, and am not checking his credentials a 1am while im typing this, but the points made in this article i totally agree with and i think are correct about the current vaccine views going on now days.

um, no data again here, but amish having lower levels of autism. maybe their levels are lower because:

(another internet source, but it works since we are arguing about this on a house music board)

 1. total population according to wikipedia: 227, 000.

 2. less belief in the medical system than most 'modern' americans, therefore less than average hospital visits, therefore less patient data to base this statement on.

 3. a higher percentage of this population has no health insurance, therefore less hospital visits, therefore less patient data.

From the article:

[]Vaccines have been linked to autism – While this is true, vaccines have been linked to autism, they don’t actually have anything to do with autism. I will not tackle this myth here, but suffice it to say, not a single shred of valid scientific evidence has ever been put forth to support a causal link between vaccines and autism. However, volume upon volume of excellent, peer-reviewed data has unequivocally shown no such a linkage [for a complete set of references, see the references section of this post from the Science-Based Medicine blog]. []Vaccine ingredients, like thimerosal, aluminum, squalene, and others can lead to immunological and neurological consequences in infants – Again, no valid data exists to support such a belief, and the existing science points us in the opposite direction

This is the best rebuttal to anyone who listens to jenny mccarthys bullshit that one could ever say:
Now, as more and more socio-economically advantaged, empowered, parents play with the vaccine schedule, cherry-picking which vaccines to give and when, the problem of childhood under-vaccination may be changing from being predominantly a result of inner-city poverty, to that of cultural elitism. In other words, we are experience a very dangerous fad, where it is now trendy to question the advice of one’s doctor, and to mistrust medical experts in general. Of course children are the ultimate victims.
this is another great quote right here:
An often-used saying by those who fight against the irrationality of anti-vaccinationism, is that “vaccines are the victim of their own success.” Certainly, vaccination has been one of the most successful public health measures. They have been so successful, that most parents (and most physicians) have no first-hand knowledge of the diseases against which children are vaccinated. These horrific diseases are but an abstraction, and the ubiquitous nature of the myths about vaccine dangers – in the mainstream media, spouted by celebrities on TV, and on the internet – have become much more “real” to an increasing number of parents. Now, it seems, that the worst of our fears may be coming true. Not that vaccines cause autism, or multiple sclerosis, or asthma, or cancer, but that the parents who fall prey to these beliefs are leading us down a very dangerous path – a path we’ve been down before, and upon which we should never again have to tread.
basically, since i dont put it past americans, since we are all more familiar with jenny mccarthys tits which we all have seen 5x in playboy in the last 15 years and on tv, rather than some crazy ass disease which none of us understand or even know how to pronounce, most people will listen to her since she is familair than listen to some scientist who they never knew or even less understand in the first place. sounds like the typical mindset to me.

amen. i have never gotten a flu shot (at least while i was old enough not under my parents control to remember it) and won't anytime soon. this is just this months fear mongering fad by the press. last year it was avian flu. before that sars. before that ebola. before that killer africanized bees. before that some other bullshit for a couple months until a congressional sex scandal came up, then it was forgotten.

read this book please:

And before that the flu pandemic of 1918 which killed 75 million.

Yes, there is over exaggeration by the media, but a blanket dismissal of flu vaccinations as unecessary, is foolish. If you are young and healthy, you can probably go without. The flu won't kill you. But if you are very young, or elderly, or immunocompromised, the flu can be killer.

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

So sad :(

That is why I am hesitant to take the flu shot. I don't think I will bother. I will just stick to eating right, exercising, and washing my hands. Its just a harder decision when you are working with the public all day and they are hacking and sneezing everywhere :what

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

As a doctor, I would recommend everyone discuss getting the flu vaccine with...guess who? Your doctor. If you decide after talking to your doctor that the vaccine isn't for you - fine. You have done your due diligence.

For those who believe the hype about autism, thiomersal etc...I recommend the following book:

“We still do not know if the deaths are connected to the vaccine.”

all had complicated preexisting conditions.

#1290150Post 32 of 68

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

Considering not that many have had it yet 5 is a big number. Swin Flu deaths aren't that many. The 1000 deaths in the US also had previous conditions.

Re: Swine Flu Shot Disaster

I'm not planning on getting the shot but my g/f is a pharmaceutical sales rep which means she's in about 3-5 different hospitals a day.

Because she's around sick people all day, I recommended her to get it. I sure as hell would if I were in her position.

I rarely get sick so I'm not planning on it.
Ya mercury (Thimerosal) is good. Look at the levels of autism between the ahmish and regular people. There levels are way lower because they don't get the vaccine.
The amish population wouldn't be big enough to do definitive studies and there have been years of studies that prove there is no connection between autism and vaccinations. The really sad thing is that because of all this false information has been spread measles is killing children again.
