Still waiting for that particular transformation myself
At the other end of the spectrum, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the Reuters news agency the award was ridiculous. "The Nobel prize for peace? Obama should have won the 'Nobel Prize for escalating violence and killing civilians'," he said.
Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

that whole "Peace" award is nonsense, lets not forget that when Al Gore won it, Limbaugh was nominated, so that basically tells you a lot.

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

I have to say...this is ridiculous, and I don't even hate Obama as much as others on here.

How do you win the award when you're still running two wars at once?

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Stupid. I used to repect that award until Al Gore got it and now this is the icing on the cake..

#1282148Post 10 of 30

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

The Nobel Committee said he won it for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples".

Fuck that, Bill Clinton should have got it for going to North Korea and bringing back those journalist that were in jail.

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Off topic but Leave ManBearPig alone!!! I like Al Gore, he seems to have spent a big chunk of his life educating people on Climate Change and raising awareness on Global issues, people should give him credit for that. Global Warming is such an important issue at the moment, you can see how many natural disasters are occuring yearly due to this.

And a third war that everyone seems to have forgotten and that is Pakistan.

The "Noble Peace Prize" is absolute joke and an insult to any sane person out there.

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

I agree with this guy from the Reuters article:

source

Haag Sherman, director of Houston-based investment firm Salient Partners, said Obama's win also showed the global strength of the United States. "It illustrates that the U.S. is still the prevalent power in the world and that the world really is seeking engagement with the United States," he said.

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Pretty ridiculous. Not really Obama's fault though. It's not like he can pass on accepting the award. I'm glad the U.S. is seen more favorably internationally. However, the award would have been more credible once he actually makes some real change. Still lots of problems in Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq.

I think what you mean is how different the world views obama vs. bush, I agree. We have certainly come a long way in a relatively short period of time!

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Can I get an award for goals and hopes that I haven't yet accomplished, too?

I walked into a bank today and told then I'd like a loan because I really hope to be a billionaire one day. They told me to leave.

What were these Norwegians thinking? Hmmm, guess we'll never know? Anyway, I'm proud our president won the award, and believe a lot of his international diplomatic efforts go unseen in our country because we are so focused right now on our own soil...

and as far as putting a screeching halt on the war in Iraq, unfortunately it's not that easy. I do believe Obama will pull-out of there when he has promised he would.

She said the American leader was trying to build bridges, which made him deserving of such an award.

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

seems to me like obama is still riding the "hope + change" train...

he got elected president for yelling out hope and change... got a noble prize for yelling out hope + change...

jus sayin

Re: Barack Obama: Nobel Peace Prize Winner

When this came out my reactin was much the same as everyone else, : "what has he done yet" but on thinking about it maybe the nobel people were looking at a bigger picture!!

A lot of people had to join in peace just to get him elected, I can tell you for sure ,a large part of the rest of the world looks at the US in a much more peaceful manner now  My feeling is it's good to have you back !!

The big one for me is that he has people we would never have dreamed of talking about peace. And talking about it the first step, and probably the most important, cos it can't happen without the talk :D

Of course his major contribution was just getting rid of the GWB regime

As for Al Gore, I have always believed that he deserved his. Let's face it ,a lot of the things that wars are fought over are affected by climate change. Once again big picture stuff.
