I'm not an expert wine connoisseur, but these two were both excellent, enjoy:!:

Cinnabar Mercury Rising Red 2004 ($19.99) Bordeaux Red Blends from Central Coast, California

Root 1 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 ($9.99) Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, South America

Any recommendations?

Re: What Wines Have You Enjoyed?

i like a lot of the trader joe's red wines (not just two buck chuck). even though the majority of the wines are cheap, they are extremely tasty for the price. most napa stuff is pretty damn delicious.

another decent one for the price is opal. about $6-$8.

some really good wine i've had came from a winery here called habersham winery. absolutely delicious in helen georgia up in the mountains. bottles run for about $15 a bottle. http://www.habershamwinery.com/main.html

Re: What Wines Have You Enjoyed?

my table wines when i was in BDX and got them for $10 a bottle were Mouton Cadet and Dourthe, roommate was friends with the Dourthe people and we got cases mad cheap. I saw them in korea for $45 a bottle. fuck!

I get Saint-Emilion stuff when i feel classy

my friend owns Chateau Vieux Moulin, but i think she's going bankrupt and doubt you can get her stuff outside of the BDX area. her wine is kinda shit anyway, haha

Re: What Wines Have You Enjoyed?

Definitely try Root:1's cab.

^^this refers to the root of the grape vines that are grafted, unlike root:1, which comes from the original root.

If I can find the name of the german riesling (a spaltese) I had at Del Frisco's in Manhattan I'll post it, it was just the house wine, but it was seriously good.

Nice !

Didn't sample too much local wine while I was in sardegna - but do love italian wines.

I love the northern italian wines Barbera D'Asti etc.

Re: What Wines Have You Enjoyed?

I try to try new stuff most of the time, but there are a number that I go back to again and again:

Los Rochas Garnacha ($10) Genesis Cab ($12) Coppola Claret ($15) Spellbound Petit Sirah ($15) Catena Malbec ($20) Caymus Conundrum ($25) Franciscan Magnificat ($45)

and I've loved everything I've ever had from the Chateuneuf du Pape region

Re: What Wines Have You Enjoyed?

Since my dad retired he's been makin his own wine and that to me is where it's at. I'm clueless when it comes to the commercial stuff i don't mind admitting but when you have a large supply of free issue it matters little. He buys his grapes from italy and after years of toil and experimentation produces something that compares very well to the average bottle on the market . It doesn't keep forever (2 yrs tops) but neither does it contain anything other than 100% organic ingredients so you can drink 2 bottles of it and feel fine next day.. It's not always as strong as wine you can buy (though sometimes it's stronger) I can't stand the white wine he makes (don't tell him!!!) but the red is magic, it feels more like being stoned than drunk after a few of those. This is the last year he's gonna do it he reckons which is a shame but he's 73 so if he says that's it then fair enough as it's a lot of effort. He can't drink it like he used to so gives most of it away.

^^ Great story ... you should carry on the tradition Bob - sure he'd love that, your 1st bottle could be the one of the most cherished presents you've given him ;)

Kamal, you can pick up a good willamatte valley pinot for under $30..just barely tho. Panther Creek, St. Innocent, Evesham Wood, all excellent.

Just got back from a California wine trip...spent 4 days, about 12 wineries. picked up a suitcase full from winery visits, plus bought a mixed case at wildhorse and had it shipped. lol. mmmmmmm. sitting on most of it for awhile, the 07 rhones at the moment are rocking it.
