Re: Bedrock 11th Birthday : Matter (Saturday 17th October 2009)

Digweed's first hour was a boring cr*p imo. Many people left the dance floor, and went up to room 2. The second hour was a bit better, and after 3 o'clock, it was fantastic. Really hard, stunning set, and the atmosphere was great. Someone said he played until 8 am! WOW! I left around 6.

Re: Bedrock 11th Birthday : Matter (Saturday 17th October 2009)

he finished just after eight, he played Tone Depth - Rumble Fish and Leftfield Lydon* - Open Up at the end

Re: Bedrock 11th Birthday : Matter (Saturday 17th October 2009)

Digweed started with Rowdent-Eat Your Heart Out and I was thinking 'Oh no' as I really don't like that track, but after that he was excellent. I agree that he stepped things up a notch from hour 2 onwards. He played an outrageous track about 2.30am, would love to hear it agan but you know what it's like in a club - you think it's the best tune you have ever heard and then 10 mins later you can't remember how it went!

I was impressed - maybe I'm back on the Digweed trail again?

He also played:

Alex Dolby & Santos - Babylon Giorgos Gatzgristos - Binary Star Systems Carl Crai - Angel *

 • = when this was played my ears would not stop tingling and my nose too - I was actually in discomfort and had to get off the dancefloor. Dunno if it was the speakers or what but my mate had the same problem? Insane track but not suited for that system (which I thought was very bass heavy at times)

Good to meet with Adzey and Chunky at long last!

Unfortuntely I had to leave at 4.15am as my friend had to be up today (ouch!) but I still had a great night - my first time clubbing since Hernan in Ibiza last September

Wish I was there. :( Sounds like it was a great night. By the way how was Danny Howells warming-up for diggers?

I only caught the last 40 minutes of Danny's set but I was a little underwhelmed to be honest. I know it was a warm up set but I was still expecting the odd classic here and there near the end.

^ ignore that fool

howells was immense and warmed it up super for diggers.

for me as they have now given the stage to the dj its kinda lost a bit of its magic as the ms crew has always been on the stage.

was disappointed with diggers to begin with boring, samey bland...but it did get better

Come off it Adzey, from where I was standing Howells was decent but not ground breaking.

Re: Bedrock 11th Birthday : Matter (Saturday 17th October 2009)

uhh john destroyed that place. we stayed right until the very last track. i could barely walk on the way out (same as last year!).

i've got videos to post when i get back to canada wednesday. until then all i will say is that i've never heard a more vocal-free, nasty techno sounding set from the man. i can't believe his ability to sustain a groove for hours at a time! oh and the uncharacteristic trainwreck around 5am! that was the first and only noticeable mistake i've heard the man make in the 15 or so times i've seen him. i honestly think it was the cdj though, as he looked at it like it was from mars when it happened.

more later...

Re: Bedrock 11th Birthday : Matter (Saturday 17th October 2009)

There's already some great pics up on the site and we all had a brilliant night at Matter - truly great to see [ms] so well represented, and I have to give a special mention to Al (Hypoluxxa) who I'd been hoping to have a drink and natter with for ages. Hypo flew into the UK from LA (via Madrid) with his lovely wife and is a great bloke (and as you can also see a pretty mean photographer !). Nice to meet Andy Newland too ... hope to catch him live at some stage too (his productions are sounding rather tasty, so I expect we'll all be seeing more of him over the next year).

The usual suspects were there too + new additions to the ever expanding group - Adzey, Chunky, Dzone, Day for Night (plus the lovely Mandy), Domnal and Maff. Funkykarma was missed but there in spirit via text updates. Great to meet Ace Dl and Spyros, somehow I missed bumping into Greg.

Matter is rather big, so we ended up on different floors and spots (plus my 2 brothers went and kept moving round ... as it was hard to keep track).

Fantastic sets from Danny and Diggers ... I'm still knackered now, so will try to post a bit more later !
With or without the Voices Inside My Head accapella?
I think they were different vocals Vish, maybe the fact it was very late in the morning I can't be certain!

Bedrock was a blast. Digweed was on fine form, as per usual. Was great to meet everyone that made the short, long and the very long (!) trips to London. matter's sound system is quite something, the bass in there was pounding, certain parts of the dancefloor with that and the vibrating floor gave you the impression that your body was about to explode!

Well, onward to Shindig in three weeks for more music sent straight from hell and delivered by John Digweed. Why do I do this to myself?!

Re: Bedrock 11th Birthday : Matter (Saturday 17th October 2009)

Was this the moment when one of the CDs fecked up for John? It's a shame, as the transition was sounding slick (it sounds as if he recovered well, anyway; I'd love to know the 2 tunes - exactly up my musical alley): Bring on his visit to Shindig, my local :D

Re: Bedrock 11th Birthday : Matter (Saturday 17th October 2009)

^^yeap thats the moment mate. it was noticeable but definately not something to remember from the night. what i remember is that John once again destroyed it!! i must agree that the first hour was a bit boring.. maybe because Danny played a great set and by the end of it the atmosphere he had created was very deep with nice techy sounds and that John didnt continue on the same pace.. eat your heart out is a great tune, just didnt fit quite well for a first track after Dannys set. after 2:30 tho he started showing again who he really is and the reason why we all traveled from near, far or too far to matter to see him!! comes 5:00 and we didnt know where it was coming from!! dark progressive house mixed with driving techno , comedowns and then bang again!! heavy bass and great sounds all the way until i left at 7:15. again diggers made me think where the funk he gets all these choons and if sometime we will be able to get our hands on them.. maybe not..

also it was great meeting some [ms] people at last, you are all very cool guys indeed!! i didnt get to say bye to Jeff and his girlfriend at the end altho i had a quick look around but didnt see u guys anywhere near!

a night to remember for sure!! so until next time we meet.....

Re: Bedrock 11th Birthday : Matter (Saturday 17th October 2009)

Well I now know of at least 2 Aussie girls who went!! One had someone bail on her so she rocked out solo !! And apparently had the best night ever!! First time seeing Digweed. !! Aussie clubbing girls FTW !!!

It's interesting actually , the only way our local forum is better, is the fact that far more females participate than do here.

WOW its hard to believe this was a week ago. It was so great to meet so many MS people and I still didn't meet all of them. Lets hope Easter is just as good. WOW this has got to be the only forum where I'm genuinely interested in meeting so many of you lot. Its like an extended family. There's a magic here that you just don't get anywhere else. This is the only place that the rave culture from 20 years ago is still alive.
