Popped this in the CD player this morning, and seriously, how good is this comp?
CD1 is just tune after tune after tune after tune. There are some absolite belters on there.
The 1st half of CD2 is also rocking.
Warren's finest hour IMO.....

Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
TBH this CD never grabbed me like some other Cd's by Nick Warren, but that doesn't mean to say I dislike it. I was always up and down with Amsterdam to but dig it out about a few months ago and realized how good it is. I did the same with Reykjavik (both discs) as well. Maybe its time to dig Shanghai out again. Sometimes you just need to be in the right environment for a CD to click into place but when it does its magical
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
Shanghai IS great! Jammed it soooo much when it came out. I love Warren, this isn't my favorite cd of his, but its very excellent still.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
It's my least favorite Warren GU by a mile.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
^ Really? Paris is probably mine - liked it at the time and then gave it another listen and didn't like it all. Same for Lima I think.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
The second disc of Paris is so-so I give you that but the first is awesome. Lima is my favorite after Reykjavik.
On Shanghai the second CD starts really good but it loses me after Acperience.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
Reykjavik is my fav of Warren's.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
Reykjavik is where its at!
I don't recall Shanghai being so memorable.. perhaps its time I gave this a recent spin.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
Reykjavik and Lima are awesome! Brazil is pretty good too. I am also quite a fan of Budapest especially the second cd, great flow and dark trance.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
Popping it in now for another listen but we use to rock to it when it came out
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
I can see why people love Reykjavik so much - at the time it was a complete change of style for GU. CD1 has some great moments, but out of the two I like CD2 the most - some really pumping tracks on there.
In terms of Paris, there are some good tracks on CD1, but CD2 is very mediocre IMO.
Dunno what it is about Lima that I'm not enjoying really. Couple of excellent tracks (Panoptic, Somnus Corp) but then some others that just seem to be filler for me.
He's still one of my favourite dj's of all time though....
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
Reykjavik used to be my fav. Nick Warren GU compilation but Shangai although I liked it the first times I listened to it has been growing inside me everytime I listen to it. It's probably now my fav. Nick Warren GU. I love how it grows, and how mellow & melodic it is, especially CD1. I still listen to it today and it still gives me Goose bumps.
Greg you've just made me listen to Shangai again. ;) 8)
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
listened to this after reading this thread yesterday. CD1 is way better than i remember
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
shanghai is one of my all time favorites from nick. am huge on mixing proghouse and progbreaks seamlessly, so resonating with this is joyous for me. i still dig it, despite it being a little bogged down in some parts; serious buisness nonetheless though.
i'll just leave this here:
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
listened twice the last days, still a great comp, both discs full of great tracks. put on Reykjavik as well and couldn't really get into disc 2...
paris next
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
I love CD1, it starts very good.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
seems CD2 was the last prog breaks mix from this era
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
I'm fond of both Shanghai and Paris. Lima, not so much.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
I'm the opposite, liked disc 2 of Paris and all of Peru. Had many attempts with Shanghai, it has never don anything for me.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
^^^ Paris Disc 2 is Sublime... I still listen to that.
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
Funny to see this thread pop up because i just played this mix (Shanghai) a few times this week, had not heard it in a while
Re: Nick Warren's Shanghai GU
CD1 drake equation still one of my favourite tunes
