Does anyone have one? I am thinking of purchasing a component for my system, possibly a Sony, but I would like some reviews. Does anyone know if these devices copy other DVD's? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I take it that you speak from a standalone DVD-recorder. I?ve got a JVC DR-M1 and I?m very happy with it. Timeshift, progressive scan and good picture-quality.
But, watching the prices nowadays, I would suggest sparing some money and buy a DVD/HDD-recorder.
Why? Because you can watch a DVD while recording from TV to HDD. More space on HDD for "temporary" recordings Better cutting-option (comercials) the ability to ALWAYS record with highest bitrate
A standalone DVD-recorder will backup a not-copy-protected DVD. But the copy will be analog, not digital. Any try to copy a protected DVD will be aborted.
Hope that helps.
