In a nutshell: A couple people who experiemented with Vladimir vodka, which is the cheapest vodka. The vodka tastes like crap so they decided to filter it out with a brita water filter. After the 4th filtration, they got the vodka to taste smooth and as good as the more expensive vodka.

Now I want to know if doing this will have any bad effects? Any alcohol experts? :D

Usually I just let my liver take care of it.

FFS for all that trouble I'll just buy a bottle of Chopin.

"bad affects?" alcohol's bad enough...all you're doing is filtering out some of the added cheapo crap that makes cheap liquor, well, cheap.

but this experiment does tend to work pretty well, as there are alcohol filters themselves in existence...they just aren't readily available to get, as say, a Brita filter would.

It may not be true Ketel One, but for those of us on a cheap-ass budget, it does the trick...:)

That is a good idea for someone without much money who wants something nice. Thanks for letting us know how to get drunk better...and cheaper. 8)

Sounds ingenious...if I were still at uni, I'd surely test it out!

P.S. I'll save it for grad school

you mean grey goose, right? ;)

Famous Grouse, not the best but it'll do a smooth trick. And a nice Cuban cigar to go with it...

Chopin is a great potato vodka made in france. Named for the great French Pianist and composer. Good stuff. I think people are too up on grey goose. For something that's not supposed to have any taste, there sure are a lot of different tastes within the vodka world.

This sound crediable. According to my buddy, who drinks enough vodka to be an expert, Goose and other premium vodkas are filtered to the point that you don't even really get much of a hangover from them. I'm a gin man myself, so I guess these doesn't help me much, but nice factoid nontheless.

Re: brita filter + bad vodka = good vodka

what do they say about hangovers? anyway, sounds good, if the brita filter can remove the aldehydes (which make the vodka taste like crap and cause hangovers).

i bought some cheap red vodka in ibiza... put it in the freezer with the other vodkas and it actually froze solid. needless to say i would not even want to drink it if it were filtered
